DDFix would allow character models with very high-resolution textures, without requiring re-UV-mapping.
I would like to know more about this. Even 512x512 would be incredible.

I've never actually tried using it myself, but basically you can use DDFix's texture override feature to replace any texture in the games with another one, including formats and sizes which Dark does not natively support (e.g. you can use a 2048x2048 DDS file).
The DDFix GUI has an option for setting up texture replacements, IIRC.
Anyone who is not using DDFix will just see the normal, unreplaced texture (which means that it will always be a good idea to include a simple 256x256 version of any high resolution texture, for foolish people who are not using DDFix).
You will, of course, need the version of DDFix that has been modified to allow the texture override feature to work in SS2. I think this is the link for it: (

(It's probably also included in the SS2Tool, though I'm not 100% sure - Kolya can confirm.)

Odd. Isn't working for me at all.

Holy damn. I never liked the midwives before, but I'll be double sure to keep an ear out for them now. :wot:
( Good job, tho. Deffo gonna download. )

Bumping this thread again, partially to ask why Eld never sent me the model to rig and get into the game, and partially to muse that DDFix would allow character models with very high-resolution textures, without requiring re-UV-mapping.
I really dont know why, I recall that was the plan some lifetime ago, I'll see if I have the model somewhere on my harddrives.
Most of the uv-mapping on the originals weren't too good, so trust me when I say that upping the resolution would still make it nasty.
one or two textures for a character is well enough before it starts breaking the consistency between the rest of the game artisticly.

Obviously the high-res character textures would only work well if they were applied to a set of all-new character models. And preferably a complete high-res retexturing of the entire game. ;-)

It isn't, yet. In my defence no mod or anything makes use of it yet. (If one did it would be easy enough to deliver the modified ddfix.dll with it.)

You mean the DDFix with the [STILL] broken ObjLook? I'll be running ss2 on my old 9600 card unless that problem is resolved.

What, the little spinny icon?
That's hardly important compared to having the rest of the game look much better?

I agree most people would see it as a minor inconvenience...however my enjoyment is more feature driven rather than graphics quality driven so it's a greater loss to me.
