I think you can pick up a USB SD card reader for something like 5 bucks or so. There are some that double as a hub or a passthrough as well.

Thanks, Starker! I was just coming back to post that I completely forgot that I have a USB SD card reader. I picked it up awhile back for something so I could use it on a computer that didn't have an SD card slot, also because the laptop is ancient. I can't believe I forgot about it. I found it in a drawer this afternoon.

The SD card thing is now a non-issue. :) I will probably pick up the Acer Nitro.

If the old laptop is still working, I'd keep it for now, especially if those classic games are important to you. Virtual machines are great for many older Windows apps, but some really old games (especially Windows 3.1 or DOS-era titles) can have issues with graphics, sound, or hardware acceleration. If you do get a new laptop, test everything in a VM first before retiring the old one. I've also found that using virtualization tools alongside the vphonegaga latest version can be useful if you like experimenting with different virtual environments, although it's aimed at Android rather than classic Windows gaming.
