Where is the service tag?
Also I already had the memory maxed out. The hard drive is next, but it is the old IDE type and options are limited.
the service tag is on the bottom of the laptop and it will be on a white stick and contain 7 digits..
You maybe able to get faster memory, and you will certainly be able to get a much faster hard drive and finally if your running a celeron cpu you will be able to upgrade the cpu to a pentium m.

@Bikerdude: The service tag is: 5C1XL81
I had a tech dude from Boeing upgrade my memory already and that worked for a while, but it has slowed way down when booting up (10-15 minutes to start).
@jay Pettitt: We use US Dollars on Zorpy. :cheeky:
As far as storage is concerned I have about 200g worth of space used on my desktop PC with all the programs I use and the files I have. Granted, some of that space is used by my wife and her 16 zillion family photos, but my stuff uses most of the space. I guess a slight upgrade in hard drive along with an external storage device might alleviate the storage problem, but the slowness and crashing are quite annoying. Also, the portability is low because of the older battery type.

I don't think you're going to get 200GB on your existing laptop, because the BIOS will faint.
That said, I reckon that it's possible to get by with much less on a second machine.
Again, you might be stuck with the lack of portability. If it's any consolation my slick, modern 15" laptop has absolutely zero credentials as a portable machine for taking any further than the sofa either, though it is quite nice not being tied to a desk.
It sounds as though your laptop is really struggling with it's huge boot times and general slowness. Hopefully a fresh install of Windows will fix that. In the mean time I find starting msconfig (Start menu >> Run... type msconfig >> click Ok) and switching off all the items under the Start up tab that isn't anti-virus and uninstalling anything of dubious value cures many common Windows ailments, though you've probably done that.

you may have to update the bios on the laptop prior to pluggin in the new cpu...

So What do I do to update the BIOS? Isn't that something I get from the manufacturer of the motherboard?
