Hey guys, just thought I'd write a little note to give a heads-up on a newly released Half-Life 2 total conversion called "Dystopia".. it's pretty cyberpunk style and has some very strong System Shock-like elements, especially the "cyberspace" area very reminiscient of SS1.
If interested take a look at :

No i'm not associated with them or anything, just thought some SS1/2 fans might be interested. Personally I stayed up until 6 AM last night playing Dystopia, though... ;)

I remember the trailer from some time ago. It has a certain feel to it that would bring ss to mind but I find it hard to draw a strong parallel. No doubt it looks entertaining though.
...sort of old news as well.

Hrm, definitely going to check this out and play it. if I like it enough maybe I'll map a few SS or SS2 themed levels.

Just because it's cyber-futuristic-scifi esque doesn't instantly make it System Shock. In fact, I'd argue that the game has little to do with SS. Besides some basic and very general gameplay mechanics (augmentations, cyberspace, sci-fi) it's very different. Much more action oriented, multiplayer, no "piecing the story from bits," no evil AI... and even though it has cyberspace, it works very differently from SS1's.

"Just because it's cyber-futuristic-scifi esque doesn't instantly make it System Shock."
That's fine... Like I said, I just thought some people here might be interested, since it's a nice cyberpunk-ish type of game running on a very recent engine. Some of us will take what we can get for our cyberpunk fix! ;)
BTW not old news at all, the first full version was just released 2 or 3 days ago.

while it's not simply system shock (or deus ex, given that game's "dystopian" theme) it fits the theme well. it's just more action-oriented.
i've played the betas and had a blast, but i can't play version 1 right now because for some reason all my source games force my PC to reboot. can't figure out why.

The games ALOT more Shadowrun-ish than System Shock-ish really. As its the whole cyberpunks vs Corporations stuff.

Ahhh that explains it - I don't read the General Gaming area. ;) I just have the System Shock Series area bookmarked as that's all I'm on this forum for.

I've gotta agree that it's not very Shockish.
I tried the demo/beta whatever a few months ago and thought it was pretty lousy too. Maybe I'll give the full version a try.
