Hi. I'm a big fan of all thief games. I really think they're the best games ever made, I was hooked as soon as I saw Thief 1 and I think a remake of the older games would be great so they worked on more modern computers..
As it is now I can only play DS. My current graphic card (geforce 7600 gs) don't handle the older ones very wel l:( I tried with the memory fix (or whatever it's called) but it doesn't work.
now, I'm going to buy a new computer in the near future and I wonder if you guys have any ideas for a card that handle all games well? I think I'll stick to XP..
my other option is to keep my current computer too and put in my old geforce 4 card in it for thief 1 and 2 but it would be much easier if I don't have to switch computer every time I want to play t1 or t2
.
I tried to search for a topic like this but I couldn't find any.

I've got an nVidia 8800 GTX and it runs all 3 Thiefs like a charm. Can't get any fog in T2, but that's Vista's fault so you should be ok with XP...

..if you want a cheap upgrade that would boost your performance and run dark engine based games without problems at the same time,go scout ebay for a radeon x1950,I can confirm it runs all three thief games flawlessly, fog, stars, and nice shadows.

Welcome, joelsilfver!
I have a Radeon x1650 which works great, including fog. It would be better to get the x1950, but if you can't find one, the x1650 is an acceptable option.

thanks for all help.. I think I should make clear that I'm after a newer card that can run new games as well..
maybe the nVidia 8800 GTX is a good choise then,
nicked: how did you get rid of the texture memory usage problem with that card?
I didn't know of that one, I must check it out.. what does it do?
Edit: by the way, sorry for posting in the wrong forum at first

Woops, I should have given you a direct link: (

It does a lot, but here's an excerpt:
Quote:
With each new graphics driver release from nvidea and amd, more and more old games are breaking. The dark engine games (i.e. Thief 1, Thief 2 and System Shock 2) have long been a victim; Thief 2 first lost its stars, had issues with fogging and then lost all colour detail in shadows. On DX10 hardware from both nvida and amd, it appears to be rendered in 8 bit colour due to removed dithering support, and since the 169.xx driver revision it has become completely unplayable. nvidea or amd are utterly uninterested in spending manpower on fixing older games, so it's seems its fallen to me to get thief looking like its old self again. The current list of fixes include:
* Worked around broken dithering by forcing rendering to a 32 bit render target
* Fixed the issue with missing star textures
* Removed the resolution switching between the game and menus
* Fixed the texture corruption and crashes caused by nvidia forceware drivers newer than 169.xx
* Fixed the issue with multi core processors
* Fixed the issue with the video codec becoming unregistered
* Adds options to use a higher bit depth z-buffer or to disable the windows key
Basically it will allow you to play thief in a more problem-free environment and is friendly towards newer graphics cards.
