The player is using the cover system there, but I'm guessing you could enter that situation crouching in 1st person instead, like I'd usually do it in any similar game?
I'd think so, unless you get a huge notice in the middle of the screen "press Y to use cover" as soon as you're a few feet from the low wall. That is fully plausible.

That was pretty cool.
Certainly a more interesting video showing you the different ways to go about doing tasks rather than the one with the lady explaining everything.

Holy shit, I think I saw a branching hallway with multiple paths in there. By multiple paths, I don't mean "do you take the direct way across the room, or the vent going around the room", but something more akin to an actual building you work your way through.
This is the one thing I'm most worried about. My worst case scenario for the game would be a Splinter Cell style layout, where you start at A, have to get to B, and have a couple of choices on how to get there. No other variation other than "do I choose the stealth route, or the full frontal assault". Every map is a glorified hallway, with doors and rooms you can't interact, save the ones that further your progress.
So far, the videos and screenshots I've seen of DX3 hint towards a more open approach, but it's hard to tell. A more gamey approach would ruin everything that makes Deus Ex, and by extension Thief, so good. I want to plan. I want to stalk. I want to take the long way around. I want to have multiple approaches that make sense. I want situations that require split second decisions. I want tension. This is the hallmark of good level design for games like this. I'm hoping they took that into consideration when making the game.

wait, what ?
aggressive: kill some dudes
adaptive: kill some dudes
stealth: knock out/kill some dudes silently
there seems to be no option to avoid combat at all

I vote we go and lynch EM.
We need to be prepared.
Would you like the GEP gen, sniper rifle, or mini-crossbow?

Deus Ex: Metal Gear Solid?

Oh come on now guys... Judging the game so harshly on a little video.
@mothra:
Sitting in front of a computer.
Typing on a keyboard.
Staring at a screen.
See there? I reduced what you did into a simple description! Win!
ok that was pretty lame description but couldn't think up something better...
Give me a break. It's quite possible the game will allow you to bypass them without killing them, and I'd count knocking someone out as avoiding combat.
You know what? Fuck it. I was gonna be all hot and bothered by Eidos Montreal taking over [and working on Thief 4, the game i'm interested in], but it's obvious they aren't Looking GLass Studios, nor should they try to be. However, if they don't manage to pull off a good game in it's own right, then we can start lighting our torches and grabbing our pitchforks. (Okay, I'll admit, if they totally deface Deus Ex or thief in fans' point of view, then we can also do that.] They're at least trying, and since neither Thief 4 or Deus Ex is released yet we should try to hold our tongues and be "cautiously negative" rather than spout shit that might be wrong.
Let's see the reviews.

Sorry, Sneaksie, I'm not sure whether you were including me in that "come on now guys" comment ...
Just to be clear, my point was that in-game conversations in Deus Ex had a similar attitude towards stealth (shoot people with our specially marked "I'm sneaking" gun!), which didn't stop the player from ghosting.

That... is actually not an illogical direction for Deus Ex to go into if you think about it.
