Considering that with a cover system any object could become a safe spot to observe guards, I have a bit of difficulty understanding what you mean.
I did not say it would be harder to design levels with lots of safe spots to observe guards. I said it would be harder to design levels with lots of safe spots.
Also, a cover system does not turn any object into a safe spot from which to observe guards. It is true that a cover system turns any object into a spot from which to observe guards.
EDIT: goddamnit new page

More like orange. This is the most orange game I've ever seen in my entire life. Not that I consider that a bad thing, exactly. It's a pretty interesting style. It's like the whole game takes place in the outskirts of a city at night, and everything is lit by sodium vapor lamps.
Fun fact: Yellow is the most exhausting color to your eyes. Staring at any one color for too long will fatigue your eyes, but yellow is right at the top of the heap.
Good going, Eidos.

For one thing, all the colors tend towards the gentler, low end of the brightness spectrum. For another, you'll be moving about constantly, alternating between different variations of colors enough that it shouldn't bother you too much. So despite being yellow-orange as all get out, playing it probably won't fatigue your eye any more than playing Thief in a dark room at night.
Compare and contrast...

Which one of those is DX3 again?

Guess. You've got a 50/50 chance of getting it right. :D

Anybody notice how fast the health regenerated? This video must have been made with the game on the easiest difficulty level, so maybe some of the annoying aids will go away at higher difficulties.

That would be cool. Sort of a "newbie" mode. I doubt it though.

Look! Green! I knew they could do it.
The player is using the cover system there, but I'm guessing you could enter that situation crouching in 1st person instead, like I'd usually do it in any similar game? I'd hazard a guess they haven't taken crouching out? :erm:
Perhaps you then won't be as hard to see as you will by using the cover system, but...

Leaning is out but crouching is in. They need it to manage ventilation ducts. After all, this is a DX game so there must be plenty of ventilation ducts.
I imagine first person stealth will still be an option, it just won't be quite as satisfying as in DX and you'll be handicapping yourself if you don't take advantage of the cover system. I am going to try my best to stick to 1st person to avoid those immersion-breaking transitions.
