If by ladder you mean that small one leaning up against the cargo container, my guess is that you can't use it, hence the crate stacking.
Of course you can't use it, it's not glowing yellow :nono:
But seriously, the object highlighting seems like a relatively minor issue in this gameplay video. It's not nearly as immersion breaking as the constant switching between 1st and 3rd person perspectives, which is more frequent and annoying in this video than I imagined it would be.
And who wants to look at the back of your character's head on a ladder? You can't even tell where on the ladder you are. I'm going to hate that.

Well, that looked awful. Didn't see much reminding me of deus ex in there. This is closer to R6 vegas in all aspects. And that level seems ridiculously small. Also I hate how you seem to be all powerful. What's the point in playing stealthily if there are no consequences for being spotted ? What's the point in hiding bodies if you can just blast your way through ? It's like playing with cheats on, sure you can choose to play stealthily and carefully, but you know that whatever happens you're invincible and you have unlimited ammo.

I know! It's like you're playing in a tutorial level or something!

That was pretty well done. :thumb:
Seemed to fit the game a little too well...

Well, as Renz mentioned, it is the first level. I can forgive them if they make that too easy, as long as the rest isn't like that.
I do see elements of Deus Ex in there, the question is whether there is any depth to the gameplay. Is it going to be the Deus Ex style gameplay we recognize, or merely a superficial caricature of Deus Ex gameplay?

This is my concern. The video above shows the groundwork for a good DX game, but we don't have any indications of how well it's put to use.
Will we see missions that rival the complexity of areas like Vandenburg and Versalife in DX3? Or will they be mostly linear affairs with a few token branches throw about just for the sake of it? The current generation of consoles can handle maps that size, so it's a good possibility. It all depends on whether EM is set on making a Deus Ex game, or a "cinematic experience" with, like you said, only the superficial characteristics of what made DX so good.
I'm optimistic enough to think they at least tried. Everything I've seen (minus the constant 1st-3rd person switching, which opinions will vary on) points towards an attempt to make a fairly decent DX game. But...well, I guess we'll see.

Note how dead-easy stealth will apparently be in HR. You get the third-person cover, which lets you look around corners with no risk, AND you get a radar that shows the location and facing of everyone around you, AND nearby NPCs have an in-HUD tag that you can see through walls.
Given how successful hardcore western-style first-person action-RPGs like Oblivion and Fallout 3 were on consoles, it absolutely blows my mind that there are still devs who remain convinced that you have to dumb things down this much to appeal to the console audience.
This includes you, Irrational.

Sounds quite a bit like Metal Gear Solid, actually. Stealth wasn't exactly dead-easy in those games, specially if you were playing on the harder difficulty levels without the assistance of the radar. I'm assuming that Deus Ex mode will probably follow suit by nixing the radar, and only allow you to see the NPC tags through a wall as a limited augmentation boost.
Or rather I hope that's the case.

It's thoroughly weird how they've done it. There's a whole lot of movement making a big deal of it in the takedown segments, making sure you see the camera leap out of your own head, wheel around and go back in. But in the cover bits, when they exit cover particularly, there's no suggestion of the camera 'reuniting' with you. The camera starts moving forward from its current position (nowhere near "your" supposed head) and the character model just disappears out of frame.
I keep wanting then to turn around so I can see to steer my guy around the cover properly, where he'd surely be bumping into things.
The RPS guys assure us its silky smooth. I don't see how it could be. I can't get used to it even watching it in the video.
