Uh - When viewing a Forum, the Replies listing is on the wayyyyyy right-hand side of the screen. It should be to the left of "last reply by 'user'" at least.
< because I dont care who last replied - I DO care how many replies there are. Infact, it could even pass being on the furthest left, but nevermind that for now.

Uh, anyone else think the list of forum viewers should be at the top of the page?
I dont like having to scroll way down to the bottom to see who's viewing the forum. Knowing who's viewing with you should be an immediate thing... without effort.

Is it just me or do the tables not align correctly?
I see that Hemebond's post content section starts 3/4 across the page for me, and others are varying distances between the minimum distance(content starts just past nick) and much distance between the nick and content section.
Everything is aligned properly on the reply page, but not on the view page.
I'm using Opera 7.50.
Edit: now they're all lined up except for the post above this one.
Edit 2: refreshing the page fixed it the second time I refreshed, but not the first.
Edit 3: wanted to see what the reason for editing box does

Uncia reported that Opera didn't work properly when he forced font sizes above the forum default. I tested it with 7.23 and yesterday a fresh install of 7.50 and it was fine, but I was not forcing font sizes.
Hopefully I'll be able to look into the font sizes sometime soon.
And avatars? No chance.

I'm using the default settings. It seems to have fixed itself now though, all looks as it should.

I've had this happening in Opera 7.23 on the Black Cat Forums aswell.
However, I know what's causing it. When the date is longer than the datefield (e.g. the table with date, username, etc), the table size fucks up and gets screwed in Opera. In other browsers, it just gets resized a bit.
I solved this by changing the php date-settings in vB to "jS M Y", and I'm now using three-characters for month display, instead of displaying the whole month (e.g. Oct, instead of October).
Also, announcements are fucked up in Opera, since the date field is much longer than in ordinary posts (May 24th, 2004 until June 24th, 2004). I changed the template to only show the date when the announcement was posted.
I guess it's more of a browser bug than a vB bug.

The point is that it's harder to concentrate on reading (you know, the entire reason for a forum) when you've got something in your peripheral vision going blinky-blinky-blinky. This isn't just IMHO, it's a proven human factors issue.
Oh, you mean like these?
:bored: :tsktsk:  :nono: :laff:  :wot:
I will admit that you have a point, though; this is something that I don't see much of as a rule, but I suppose it could happen on other fora...the big question here is, do you trust the other denizens of TTLG not to be asses about what they put in their avatars?

I reckon 32x32 and 1024B would be acceptable, but anything larger would be annoying. The download of a dozen 10-15KB avatars when opening a thread is no fun for people on slower connections.
This is why most browsers have a 'use cached images only' option. Alternatively, and a much better solution, would simply be to
turn off avatar displays in the user CP options. You don't want to be burdened with the load time, fine, but some of us use avatars as a quick way to tell who's posting.
Of course, this whole argument is now somewhat moot.

In which case the 'show avatars' option in the CP might be better commented out.

I agree with ZylonBane about animated avatars, and I actually don't like those little animated smily buggers much either. Fortunately most people keep them out of those posts that require me to perform large amounts of thinking as I read, whereas an animated avatar would always be present next to a person's posts if the option to display avatars is on. And despite a large majority being sensible and not using animated avatars, there would probably be the occasional person who selects a very annoying animated image if the option is available.
I agree that avatars can be useful for telling who's posting - mostly in the cases where there are people using similar names (there are a few sets of people I can't distinguish from each other - almost anyone with "sneaksie" in their name, for example). The way I see it, avatars would have a fairly similar role to that of program icons. That's why I don't think larger images would provide much additional benefit. Indeed they might actually reduce the positive effects, as more people would turn off avatars.
I don't really mind whether avatars are enabled or not (provided, of course, that the option to turn them off would remain if they were enabled). But it would be nice to know the reasons why the choice is made, rather than just "No chance".

there have been many threads about it. When the search function's back, look for "avatars" and "avatarts", you'll get your anwser.
imho no avatars == heaven :thumb:
