Yeah, I figured out that it was PHP, which is compiled as a CGI executable. They could be banished if we moved to the SAPI version, however that is deemed (by PHP) not to be "production stable". :erg:

It saves loads of bandwidth tho. And the file is cached by the client, so the pages should display even faster after the first visit.
The important bits of the .css style (the background colours for the tables, and maybe one or two other things) would not take up much space, and could easily be put in the head of each file at > 1k.
It shouldn't make a significant difference to the loading time.

We get approx 10.5 million page views per month, it would make a hefty difference to the amount of data we transfer even though it would be Gzipped.

is stored in an external .css file - that means that every time you save a page without all the associated files, it turns into a flat, white document.
So use the "Web page, complete" save option in Mozilla, problem solved. Or just cut the css link tag out of the documents you save to ue your browser's default colours...
Admins - is there some method to have "Show your signature" enabled by default in posts? Either my aging grey-matter has missed something obvious or I have to enable it by hand.
... although I guess this is actually deliberate to cut down on traffic as well...

Auto-signature was disabled to stop people spamming their signature on every post by accident.

Speaking of which, the people who appear on the "whos online" list is an optional thing on the user's part so is there really a need for such a feature?

In a word, yes.
You can only be "invisible" to other members, moderators and admins can still see you [insert note about eerie powers, and "you can run, but you can't ever hide" etc.]. :cheeky:
