New Forum: Webdesign, php, MySQL, photoshop... - by mOdEtWo

... you name it.
I know, I know - this has nothing to do with TTLG, but I think it's got something to do with the community. We all know there are a lot of fansites out there, some good - some bad. Why not gather the professionals, the learners, the teachers and the newbies into a great discussion, teaching and learning process for and about websites!? Giving tips, ideas, and feedback...
Include coding of MySQL (and other databases), php, cgi and other scripting languages - and of course (x)html/css. And while we're at it, webstandards!
I know a lot of people are very good with photoshop too (and other programs), which makes them capable of making kick-ass website graphics - I would love to learn tricks, and to teach what I already know. And, it doesn't just have to be about webdesign, but using the program and producing stuff in general.
Well, just my 2 cents. Don't kill me over this, cause I would love to see such a forum. And I know a lot of other taffers would too. Would fit nice inside the Community Center, no?
Well, I understand if you don't want this, since this community is mostly about games/gamers. And, if *I* got my "request" coming true, then everybody else could get a forum to discuss their favourite hobby/job!? Well, I still mean that this has got something to do with the community, cause of all the fansites and other stuff out there - produced by the community, for the community...
Beats me what other people think, but I would love to help out with this. :)

I wouldn't really mind it. I think most stuff of that kind could probably be posted to Tech Help, but on the other hand, people maybe would come here more with that kind of thing if there was a forum that explicitly said "for web/graphics stuff".
I'd be happy to help out there as well, but generally, my position towards the idea is a neutral one.

Well, yes - you might be right. Just curious to hear others opinions...

I like this idea.
It's true what you say mOdEtWo, if your request get's put in reality, then maybe john and who knows who would also like a forum about their pets or whatever. Which might be a bit unfair.
The example Outrider gives is good too, Tech Help isn't really boosting with posts and we could put our web discussions in there.
Curious about what the admins have to say about this. :)

Aside from that, I think it's a good idea. It's up to the admins to decide whether we get a new forum or not(it's a dictatorship, remember).

I like the idea! I'm posting questions about stuff like that in the Thief forum, cuz I know that's where Omega hangs out, or PMing him, but I would get alot more helf if everyone was directed to my questions like that! :thumb:

I would suggest posting the questions etc in the Technical and Troubleshooting forum. I feel that a webdesign forum would, at the moment, have a <i>very</i> limited crowd and would probably lay dormant most of the time. At some point in the future the Technical forum may be getting splt into sub forums of a Technical forum and a Troubleshooting forum. If there is enough useful conversation on webdesign topics a forum may be created then, but I can't promise anything.

Hmm, I guess you're right.
Oh well, it was worth the try! :)
