A few tips to kill the icebeasts:
In the start-area there is a small passage-way you can only enter if you crouch. If you lure the icebeasts around this area there you can easily kill them with the wrench.
In the second outside-area you can kill the ice-beasts easily when you make them follow you (this is the easiest part! :cheeky: ) and then run to the bridge, jump into the water and climb up the ladder again. Then you can shoot them down from the ladder.
Look for some dark shadow before you shoot on icebeasts. When they are hit they will move in your direction --- but slowlier because they can't see you and still search.
When an icebeast has spotted you, walk backwards while shooting. It's much harder for those coldhearted guys to knock you down when you walk backwards.
Tip 1 will come in handy. :sly:
Though tip 2 is kind of pointless, there are two ice beasts that always pop up again when you return to the area near the level transition point.

Okay, I'm done with Polaris. The whole Research section was truly awesome!
But are there multiple endings?
Because I didn't fight the Many brain and, after I reached the shuttle, I got a not so happy ending about the planet getting quarantined and my player being MIA.
There's only that one ending. Unless the others are carefully hidden and have no cutscenes.
Also, you can't fight that Many brain. What would be the point, when you explode it later anyway?

Remind me again what exactly is to be gained by using the Thief 2 engine over the SS2 engine?
Lightgem, carryable bodies, that sort of thing. But mostly, a non-RPG interface. SS2 is vastly more complex than Thief, and that barrier to entry is, I believe, why there are so few FMs for it.

It's also the limination of the AI's to the SS2 story. It would be great if there were some "normal" guards... not only the Many and SHODAN... It's much harder to wrote a story for a SS2 FM as for Thief. (at least for me :p )
Nameless Voice on 13/8/2007 at 18:07
Both of those could be implemented in SS2, though.
I guess the question I'm asking is: would it be possible to achieve the same effect by selectively disabling or 'breaking' aspects of SS2's interface, such as the log reader, MFD display, trait and upgrade systems, etc.?
You'd still be left using the more awkward ShockEd editor, though.
(This is getting a bit off-topic. If this discussion goes on any longer we should probably move it back to the (
http://www.ttlg.com/forums/showthread.php?t=103414) original thread about this topic.)
Back
on topic, I agree with TheNightTerror about the lack of
enemy leader, and also think that there was too little communication with the commander back on the ship - in other words, there was no real feedback for any of the player's actions. In the original games, you always had someone either threatening or praising you whenever you accomplished an important task, whereas here no one seemed to be overly interested in your progress.Another thing I could complain about is the decor in the crew area - the bedrooms all looked so much the same that I had a hard time knowing where I had been and where I hadn't, so I ended up misisng
one of the required codes there.

I really wasn't expecting the campaign to end that way. I mean, I made to the shuttle alive! Why the commander is acting like I've failed? Pretty much anticlimactic, if you ask me!
I hope there will be a sequel to solve the loose ends. Besides, Polaris looks like in an interesting place... :ebil:

Thanks for new campaign, Christine! :thumb:
I really enjoyed playing your campaign and I can honestly say that detail of levels was awesome! Another masterpiece from you!

Because your shuttlecraft had been trashed by the ice beasts, so you couldn't use it to get back up. And presumably your radio communications were routed through the shuttle, so with that destroyed you couldn't communicate your situation.
I quite liked the ending, it was unexpected.
