System Shock 2 uses Direct3D, not Glide. So I don't see point to use that program, unless you have very old games that only supports Glide.

What this program does?
Are you using Mod Manager?
VenoM_31 on 1/9/2007 at 14:16
It patches SS2 so that it could work correctly on systems with HyperThreading. I don't know if it really changes smth in the engine, maybe it just turns HT off for the time of execution and back on, no matter.
And the second, nope, I don't, 'cause I didn't like it one bit. I've heard there's some new version. Gotta check it out ;).

Eh, I know I can't force you into happiness but let me tell you a few things: If you follow the instructions on SBF to (
http://www.strangebedfellows.de/index.php/topic,106.0.html) make your game mod ready you can skip most of what you have there. Especially that "mod compilation".
These compilations are usually mods downloaded from SBF, then thrown together by people without any sense, let alone checking for compatibility and put up as the "latest greatest mod compilation"-torrents.
Apart from the fact that such badly checked compilations often include old versions of mods and can severly fuck up your game, they are also completely unnecessary!
The modmanager allows you easily to activate dozens of mods AND checks their compatibility for you. Now you said that you didn't like the modmanager, but it's no painting or song, it's a very functional program that can help you a lot if you give it a chance, all the more since TheBrain updates it continously.
Like I said, I can't force you into having a good game, but you may realize sometime yourself, that we know our SS2 better than anyone else. :)

I finally played Polaris (together with SHTUP Beta 6, which made everything look even better). Bravo, Christine! I think out of all the SS2 FMs you've done, this is my favorite one. :D
What I liked about it, was that a large portion of it was outdoors and made for a refreshing change from the constant corridors onboard space craft or inside bases. The snowy landscape was a delight to travel through.
There are a few things I noticed that bugged me little, though. (Sorry!)
I agree that the ice beasts exploding when they die is a bit harsh. I had to circle strafe the ice beasts over and over again, in order to try and not be close when they die. It was a bit frustrating. But in the end, I did manage to beat them all through perseverance.
In the building that had been under construction and wasn't finished yet, I found it very difficult to jump off the ladders in order to reach the second and third floors. I kept dying over and over again. I think there should be a small ledge in front of the opening to each floor, in order to make it easier to land without falling.
I found the Crystal Shard near the end, but what was its purpose in being there? The FM doesn't allow you to have or upgrade the exotic weapon skill, so you can't use it. Also, the Shard is an invention of Shodan. Not the Many. So it really shouldn't even be there in the first place.
And at the end, when I had to activate the panels to prepare for detonation, I came to realize that even though I'd collected all the codes: the Notes section of the PDA did not list the codes any more! So I had to load an earlier save, look at the Notes, and write down the codes so that I wouldn't be lost when I had to enter the codes.
I like the fact that the ending was unexpected, but it did feel a bit forced. I find it somewhat hard to believe the Commander would just leave the player behind, so soon after his last contact where he confirmed that the research section had been destroyed. Orders, or no orders.
But please, don't get me wrong. Like I said, I enjoyed this latest FM very much. Possibly more so than your previous ones! But considering the ending: I guess I'm out of a job, huh? :laff: Well, even so, I hope you still make another one, and would be glad to be a part of it.

I think I reloaded the savegame over two dozen times when trying to reach the 3rd floor.

is a creation of The Many.

Beaten by 4 minutes, I was about to say the same thing. :o

D'oh! My memory is failing me. I forgot the part where Shodan said it was a creation of her children.

After playing Bioshock which was great but too easy I'm looking for a challenge. I was thinking of downloading this mission and playing OSA first off on impossible or hard. Is that a good idea? Or would it be too tough?
Bjossi on 6/9/2007 at 17:44
Well, that will be horrendously difficult in the first outside parts of the mission. I had some problems with those and I used the guns. :o
