I noticed that when I take my USB drive to other computers and try to run thief2.exe so that it loads new darkloader, it will crash with an unhandled exception.
After poking around at the stack trace I see that it's complaining that it can't find the directory set in NewDarkLoader.ini.
ArchiveRoot=G:\games\T2_FMs
When I'm on my computer at work, it's usually I:\
I found though that if I just remove the drive designation and leave it as:
ArchiveRoot=\games\T2_FMs
It works fine no matter what drive letter gets assigned.
Would be nice if the program was smart enough to use relative paths to begin with, but at least there's a work-around in case anyone else has this issue.

The fact that your workaround works would indicate that the program uses relative paths just fine. :D
Perhaps it's the user that needs to be smart enough to use relative paths as you were. ;)

Yes sorry, didn't mean to make a dig with that wording.
The issue is that not only does it not default or fall back to relative path search for FMs folder, it crashes without an error message when it can't find the directory.
EDIT: If this exception was caught it could at least post the error message so we could know what the error is.

I know, I got that and I agree that it should be addressed, I was just playing a bit. I'm sure R Soul will probably want to fix this.

lol I just tried NDL 1.5.5 and now it's crashing again.
I deleted the INI file and did the set up again, just crashing.

I check the crash dump and this time it's:

https://i.imgur.com/GR0egHb.gifAll these zip files worked with the previous version.
EDIT: I've removed all the zip files except Deaths' Cold Embrace, and now it loaded up.
Something in the older zips it doesn't like.

I've started looking in to support for relative paths. If you provide a link to one of the zip files that seemed to have caused a crash, I can look at it in more detail and see what I can do.

It's hard to tell without more info.
Go to Thief2\FMs\NewDarkLoader.ini, and in the [Config] section type in Log=1 on its own line. Run the game again, and then go back to the FMs folder. You should now see a file called ndlog. Post its contents* here or in a PM to me, and I'll see if I can identify the cause of the problem.
