Dubbed Fallout: New Vegas, the game is not a sequel to last year's massively popular Fallout 3, and will instead be a standalone title 'set in the Fallout universe'.
Doesn't Obsidian have some of Fallout's original developers? :o
The non-sequel thing seems arbitrary, too. How is Fallout 3 a sequel to Fallout 2 but this won't be? Just because there won't be a 4 at the end? I can understand Battlespire and Redguard not being considered TES 3 and 4, but I wonder what will set this apart from the core titles so much that they feel the need to say "this isn't a sequel."

How is Fallout 3 a sequel to Fallout 2
Indeed.

Obsidian is currently headed up by Chris Avellone, who was one of the major names behind Fallout 2.
So we might get the best of both here. The interesting world and set pieces of Fallout 3, and the dialog and banter of FO1 & 2. As long as it isn't rushed, I could see this as being a very neat thing.
Also it's Obsidian. Who were at one time Black Isle. And also maybe a little bit of Troika in there as well. It might be wise to gird your loins for a metric fuckton of bugs.

Can't be worse than Fallout 3 i guess

Wow. You people are the quaaludes used to spike the punch at the happy fun fuck party. Comeon, you all can at least crack a smile on occasion.

I can't understand by what measure anyone can call F3 a crap game. Well anyone except an NMAer, for whom Fallout 1 is the objective measure for all game for all time.
Fuck that. This is good news.

Chris Avellone doing a game in the Fallout 3 engine sounds like a good time.

Sounds fucking excellent, actually. He might be one of the few people who could do justice to the Fallout universe with a sequel.

Far too many chems floating about, far too easy, combat was pretty poor, voice acting was annoying in a lot of places, quests were frequently dull and tedious, game balance was atrocious, the settlements were crap compared to the earlier fallout games and it lacked a lot of a the little things that set fallout aside from other rpgs and made it excellent.
So when I say it's crap, I mean it in a Bioshock kinda way - could've been great but they fucked it up in a lot of the ways they did Oblivion, only with fallout it's worse because they had more to live up to.
