Also, if you don't have a GEP gun handy, one of the guards has one.
You should also be aware that Master skill level in Rifles will enable you to smash some locked objects with the sniper rifle. There is another weapon too, but I won't give away the semi-spoiler here.
You should also know that Sabot ammo can destroy turrets and cameras with reasonably good efficiency.

Thanks for all the comments, folks; good info from all! :)

Ok, then...
I'm now in the Hong Kong city area, and am thoroughly enjoying this level! The exploration potential alone make this the best level yet (IMHO). I especially liked when
Maggie's maid attacked me when I started exploring the penthouse more than she thought I should. Something about a slightly overweight chinese woman in a maid outfit trying to kick an armed-to-the-teeth government agent's ass struck me as hilarious. BTW, I couldn't bring myself to hurt her (laughing too hard).
I am not really stuck, but am looking for more multitools so I can get to some inaccessible areas. Or maybe there are alternate ways of "multitooling", as with the weapons mentioned for lockpicking??? I'll have to experiment with that notion, but if not, I'll just keep exploring, and eventually reload as a last resort.
Just rambling on here... sorry. :)

What are you using the multitools on? If it's a keypad, then there's probably a code lying about somewhere. There's usually multiple ways into something, often vents - use your light to search dark areas. If there aren't, then it's probably not that important. After all, despite the open gameplay, the designers have to leave some goodies for people who specialised in the 'hacking' route.

To expand on what Ajare said, I rarely ever found myself needing multitools, even with an Untrained skill level, because so many codes are available for keypads, and needing a multitool for a turret or camera is very rare (the only time I used one on a camera was for the camera above the entry door to the Helipad lobby, after leaving the booby-trapped Mole People tunnels, and the camera at the bottom of the basement ramp outside Osgood & Sons near the NSF generator).
Some keypad codes aren't worth multitooling - you can guess the combination. Especially for those with only two digits. A common code on some cheap MJ12 keypads with only two digits is 12. Surprise, huh? :joke: Some others are easy to guess, too... if you don't know a code, and the environment suggests that the keypad isn't protecting anything particularly important, 1-2-3-4 or 0-0-0-1 and other such easy guesses aren't a bad idea.

Hmmm.... now you've both got me thinking that I most certainly used my multitools unnecessarily. I have a very nasty habit of skimming over datacube/email communications, especially when my "hack" progress is getting close to depletion and sounding an alarm (turning red). I need to stop that immediately. I think I'm going to restart this level from the beginning, this time reading more carefully (and thereby saving my multitools).
Question: Do ALL hints/codes in datacube/emails get saved in the datavault under goals/notes, or does the player need to take actual notes of these? I seem to remember trying to find code(s) there a time or two, and not seeing them after previously reading about them. This could be a case of reading them in a previous, unrelated save, however.
Anyway, thanks for the tips! :thumb:

Things which don't get saved in your Goals/Notes screen:
* any Newspapers/Books you read
* some passwords/codes spoken to you by NPCs (but they're in the Conversations tab, only during the current game, though - I don't think you see them if you reload)
* emails you read
Information from datacubes gets saved automatically.
If you can't open a keypad or lock, keep exploring and come back to it, since you may be able to find a code or nanokey nearby.

GreatGodPan: My wife calls me that when she's particularly irritated too....hmmm...wonder why...
Quick update:
I'm now at the Brooklyn Naval Shipyards. Sorry to report that nothing has warrented a post up until this one, although the storyline has been very interesting.
That said, at this point, I am ABSOLUTELY CERTAIN that I will replay this game. I MUST KNOW if I can get at least as far as I am now with stealth tactics instead of brute-force. I've been doing the "Rambo" thing, and now realize that at least most of the time, that is not necessary.
The "Thief" influence in me is compelling me to try the "no-kill" approach. So far, I'm a murdering bastard.
Has anyone done the "no-kill" thing? Is it possible? Regardless of answers, I've got to try it. :)

In most circumstances that shouldn't be too big a deal, and in the other you've got amazing advances in medicine to rectify things.
