Ok, laugh at will.
I'm at the same point I was when I originally tried the training, and am stuck AGAIN!
Jamie says that there's more than one way to open a door, but no code is provided, and the crowbar I have does nothing.
Help, please?
GODDAMMIT I FEEL SOOOOO STUPID!!!!!

Use the crowbar to smash the crates. Get the lockpicks from the smashed crates.

Super-DUH!! Ok, I've got the lockpicks, but they do nothing. When I try to open the lock, I'm presented with the lock numbers. The lockpicks do nothing. What is it that I should be understanding?

You use lockpicks on the door itself. Multitools (the yellow mobile phone things) are used on keypads.

Multitools (the yellow mobile phone things)
I suspect the look of the multitools was modeled after the popular (
http://www.fluke.com/) Fluke multimeters.

:) Thanks Ajare! I needed to use the multitool on the keypad. Finished phase 1 training, now I'm on to phase 2. :)
WOO-HOO! Finished Training! Now, on to the REAL STUFF!
Hopefully, no more newbie questions. :)
Disclaimer: I reserve the right to ask stupid newbie questions. Please tolerate me, oh masters of Deus Ex. :)

Ok fine. We'll tolerate you.
Ok ok, I'm not a master at DX, but I'm pretty close. I think? :D
Good luck with the rest of the game!

For those who give a crap (and again, only because I was asked to do this):
I've made progress. The game is getting much more interesting, which is very comforting considering my rather bleak initial opinion of the first few levels, and the honor it is given here in these forums.
I've completed the "Take out the terrorists in the subway station, and save the hostages" quest three times now. On the first and second try, I "bullied" my way through, killing all terrorists, but also killing civilians (once directly, ...oopsie). Both ended up with a "That hostage rescue was a disaster" toungue-lashing from my brother. Then, however, I discovered the ventilation system. On my third attempt, using the ventilation system, I was much more stealthy, and all hostages survived. That was fun! :)
I'm now searching for NSF's secret generator, and the "Ton Hotel".
Long story short, I've been talking to various civilians, learning, and am VERY impressed with the dialogue clips so far. The breasts of some of the females are especially eye-catching, too .... (anotomically correct nipple-ness....Woo-Hoo!)
...moving on....

You're "searching" for the 'Ton Hotel? You should see the sign on one of the buildings - it's very clear, and hard to miss.... just go South immediately after you go up the stairs from the subway. The (Hil)'Ton Hotel sign is in red and yellow letters above the double-door entry to the hotel - where the UNATCO trooper tells you about the "hostage situation" inside. There is a shootout just around the corner from there. Osgood & Sons is just South of the 'Ton entrance, but you might prefer to explore a bit before you go into Osgood & Sons, because it's difficult (but not impossible) to get back, once you've passed certain areas. Do as much as you can in the 'Ton, and talk to people in the Underworld Bar, and the Free Clinic.
I'm happy you're impressed with how interesting the game has been so far, but in all honesty, you haven't even scratched the surface of how interesting the game becomes. :D That's a good thing.

Thanks, moop, it's good to know it only gets better!
I've just finished the New York warehouse mission, which had lots of enjoyable rooftop and stealthy sniping action.
I'm back at Liberty Island headquarters, and something is really annoying me. A civilian woman tells me that I can find some extra equipment in the "false floor in Jacobson's office". I've searched this office for way too long now, and can't seem to find any false floor. Has anyone found this?
