Hi,
Yes, I guess I'm the last TTLG member who has NOT played Deus Ex until now. I know that. Flamer-vultures please find your fun elsewhere.
I'm stuck. I'm still in the training misssions, and have come upon a door which obviously needs a code to open, and I THINK I have the code, but the door does not open using the seemingly obviously intended code. Hopefully that is not too vague of a discription. If it is, I can elaborate.
Any suggestions? I'm anxious to get into the "meat" of the game, but this training is sadly tedious so far.
Thanks. :)

I think there are 2 doors which have keypads. one actually does use a code, the other you need the pivk up the multitool and use that to hack it. (I cant remember preperly because I havnt done the training in ages. did it once)
and welcome to the best game which is, Deus Ex :D

Thanks, the one true thief! I appreciate your response, but I've decided to skip the training and start the game, which may or may not turn out to be a mistake. So far, it seems as though skipping training will not be a problem, and I'm enjoying the game very much.
Moving on... :)

Skipping the training should not really be a problem, however after these doors you learn how to use a rifle, how to disable LAMs, how to crouch and sneak behind guards, that kind of things... Standard stuff to prepare you for the "real thing"...
There's also a hidden room. You can go back and do the training later, just to find it.

Sorry, averroes, but what are "LAM"s? I don't mean to ask such stupid newby stuff, but this one doesn't jump out at me.
Light Ambulatory Motion...
Lifting Altitude Monitor...
Life Altering Motion...
Laughably Alterior Motive...
Lonely After Momma...
Leg Amputee Mania...
Let Amber Move...
Left Assured Motion...
...to name a few possibilities...

A 'LAM' is pretty much a bomb :) you can stick it on walls or throw it at someone/something
btw. LAM stands for 'Lightweight Attack Munitions'

Remember, it's a bad choice for close-range combat.

As long as you're familiar with how to do the basic tasks, like picking a lock, hacking a keypad or computer terminal, using an environmental suit, avoiding guards/bots, and planting LAMs, you should have no trouble proceeding with the regular game.
The learning curve for DX was developed nicely. Your skills increase at a rate which allow enough game time for you to become accustomed to the ones you have.
Keep us posted how you're doing. Reliving our first experience with DX vicariously through new players such as yourself is always a blast of nostalgia.
