New DX2 patch. Thief performance? - by Mr. K.

If any of you have DX2 (and still haven't shot yourself after playing it), there's a new patch out that claims to improve performance and do some other stuff. Could you post about the performance after the patch? I'm guessing it'd be what we could expect from T3 (Spector saying T3 would have been optimized over the original DX2).

There is a significant increase in performance. Dont know how much, because I havent done any benchmarking but It is very noticeable:thumb:

The only test I did was to run around Upper Seattle City Center with the ingame frame counter. Using the same settings, the minimum framerate went from 20 to 29. That's @ 1024x768 with low shadows/lighting, high character detail and no bloom or multisampling. I play with vsynch ON, so posting maximum framerates would be pointless.

Yay \o/
We now have a decent engine here (well except water and level loads) so all that needs to have a decent game. The level loading is much more bearable when the game isn't going to crash every load........ but it is still pretty unexceptable.... if it has to be done in thief at least they better make it as painless as possible, they should drop the splash screen and just load from a screen cap... like in halflife....
edit: oh and the sound system, and the textures and the performance hit with fancy lights/shadows turned on and.... oh forget it this is just going to depress us all...

Meh, the textures aren't all that bad in Thief 3. At the very least the game looks LOADS better than how DX2 ended up.

Where is the patch? Ionstorm.com doesnt mention it, and I didnt find it in their forums.
...u don't mean 1.1, right?

This thread would be better served in the IW forum.
Off we go...

No, he means 1.2
As far as it goes - it's a significant improvement - not just in framerates, but in general.
For example, the game originally didn't save resolution and other settings globally - they were based on the savegame you use. Also, between level sections, you used to get dropped to the desktop and then the video would reinitialize - obviously, this is incredibly disturbing to the flow of gameplay.
None of this is a problem anymore - once the game is started, it keeps the same resolution unles you change it.
Also, the CD protection routines were so bad that I had to use a No CD crack just to play the game. Sometimes it would drop me out during a level load, sometimes it just wouldn't start, but now that's fixed - either they took the cd protection out or they changed the way it's done. Not sure which.
Basically, nothing is going to change their choices on the game, so you're gameplay irritations may not be solved here, but if it's a technical problem (and I don't just mean a complaint about the way the physics work), it should be corrected.

I'm fairly sure you mean "Unacceptable"
"Unexceptable" isn't a word; "Unexpectable" would be something that can't be expected...I think.

Why?

Proper usage: "It is unexpectable that faulty grammar, spelling, or usage could pass without comment on a bulletin board."
