What's with the Pod People in the 4th one?
Stainboy on 29/1/2003 at 20:00
I most sincerely hope that they're not aliens or some sort of creatures - i.e. the things which ruin the original game, IMHO. If there's one thing I could do without in the sequel, it's more bloody animals to kill... Grr...
I'm also hoping that the mapping is improved somewhat - I can't believe what they got away with first time through - the headquarters for the anti-terrorist coalition for the world has only 7 offices? WTF. Several other things pissed me off about the mapping, that I only realised on my current game (about 6th time through) but I appear to be rambling off the subject somewhat... :p
So yeah, it all looks pretty damn good. :)

One of the things I really liked about Deus Ex was the presence of lots of people, especially in Hell's Kitchen. I really despised the greasels and karkians and everything else later on. The greys were probably the worst things ever. :grr:
When I first bought the game, I looked at the box shot of the grey on what looked like an operating room table. I thought, "Cool! Maybe this game will do aliens right!"
Then I waited. and waited. and waited some more.
:o The grey in Versalife! I'm getting close!
More waiting. until Area 51.

Really? Never played the full version of Blood 2. Only played the demo of that. Shane I never got my hands on it, or found a warez version :p as I totally loved the demo.

I'm really impressed with the new models, especially that guy wearing the turbin. That coupled with the facial expression that came with the Unreal package should add alot.
I don't know about you, but I think the outside shot of the big building is kind of boring, it looks like Deus Ex 1.
I agree with was people said about that animals, especially the "greys". That seemed utterly cliche and didn't fit the real-world, believable feel that the game was going for.

Fit my general view of the real world.
(thinks about this)
Which may say something about me...
I mean, with the level of nanotech that was shown off in Deus Ex, surely some genetically changed critters shouldn't be weird. I perfered the one guard's theory about the grays. They're just chimps that were engineered to have no hair and other deformities. A lie of a lie to hide the real truth about Area 51, so that those who worked there or in Versalife didn't realize the true intentions and were misled by their own inability to jump conclusions. So, as I said... it made perfect sense from my view of Deus Ex as a real world. I would have only perferred if there had been either a) more of them and b) written into the plot a little better than random engineered critters (I don't think the kavorkians and the others were ever explained later, were they? Been a year since I finished Deus Ex).
Oh, and hi, I'm new. I'm a Pratchett fan who played Thief after he said he liked them and went on to play Deus Ex, too. And then today I wondered what was in here and joined on a whim. So... hi.

Welcome to the forums, Kingleon. I agree with you in this critter issue.

I always thought the critters were out of place as well (and mostly, just damn annoying to kill sometimes!), but they didn't really distract from the enjoyment of the game (to be honest, what I felt distracted me a bit was the crappy AI, and the fact that it felt like I was in NY for years, and then in the same amount of time I got through all the other locations). Don't get me wrong, this is NOT a bad game IMO (I've just started playing it again, maybe the critters won't feel out of place this time?!?) - I actually preferred SS2 to DX, but then again, in SS2 you fight someone who thinks they're god, whereas in DX you can become god!!! :cheeky:

The critters are all part of the over-the-top conspracy stew, adds some spice and variety. All humans or all critters is boring.
To me the DX1 buildings actually looked better on my Voodoo 3 3000!
