Alex, kewl. And all that dynamic-shadows/guards with flashlights stuff sounds exiting too.
They don't say but, perhaps Billie Adams will be the promised female character you can play.

No it is Alex Denton. (Billie Adams... what a terrible name).

Alex, while normally short for the male Alexander, could also be Alexandria. So 'Alex Denton' can be male or female.

Alex Denton is a man.
Who is that Billie Adams?
Amorpheus on 23/5/2002 at 12:30
For you. For a female player it will be, well, female. DUH. (Yes, yes, in DX1 the body in the tube was male, but a sequel was never taken into account back then. It's a compromise. Deal with it. :))
A fellow lab rat you're escaping with? It's a bit early to ask about details of a character we're lucky to just know the name of...
edit: Hmmm, Billie? Might her gender be inversed if you pick a female Alex? Food for thought... ;)

Hah! I guessed that the first time I read the name in Area 51 :)
Now I'm guessing that a JC Denton corrupted by power will be a major
opponent if not the final boss.

I agree with you, which is why I went with the new dark age. the computer had no compassion and enforced martial law. plus, doesn't anyone remember the earlier version of the AI at dowd's? the one that wants to be a god and rule over mankind?
I mean COME ON.
plus, it's a cop out to say that mankinds future shouldn't be mankinds future, but should be controlled and planned by robots because humans can't be trusted with their own freedom.
illuminati were obviously corrupt.
and I felt that a "dark age" was an exaggeration at the loss of existing communications tech. it's not like everything other than phones, online (connected to internet) computers, radio and tv would be lost. so dark age, and freedom to make our own future was the obvious choice. but I guess JC was a moron, got power hungry, and condemned us all. the bastard.

Was looking forward to Thief 3, but man does this sound great too. I loved the original but he following comment from Spector worries me...
"We probably put too many missions into Deus Ex," he said. "People these days don't have 40 hours that they are willing to spend on a game. So we are going to have fewer locations. We will still have places like Cairo, Seattle and Antarctica, but with a greater level of detail."
Sounds like a cop-out to me. One of the best things about Deus Ex was the missions. I mean are we going to have "Save the World in 30 minutes or Less" gameplay? Replay value is great, but the first time through any game is always the best, so lets add some length to it. Just a thought.

Helios (the computer has a name) might not have emotions such as compassion but he wanted to do the best thing for humanity via the most efficient route. The point of merging with JC was to enable Helios to understand human needs. He would have gained compassion through JC, who obviously had that quality. There is nothing wrong with martial law when the circumstances are dire. And we all do remember the name of the AI you refer to as Morpheus, as well as remembering that it was located at Everett's residence not Dowd's. That conversation epitomised the entire game. It represented the two sides of the argument. The point of the conversation was to make people review whether the current society (US 2002) is really the one they want. Everyone is entitled to their own opinions and the game implied no answer. The dialogue ended in a stale mate. While you cannot accept the dominance of an electronic sentient and consider it ridiculous, others also find the purging of technology to be preposterous. The Illuminati is corrupted as you say, but it is better than the alternative of thousands of corrupted entities who are much less sophisticated at getting what they want. The description of DX2's background sounds very much as if JC went with the Tong ending. As soon as MJ12 was eliminated, a power vacuum existed. The lost of global communications also meant that local authority immediately gained power. Although a global authority like the UN has the potential for global domination, the checks and balances are in place to make this very unlikely. Local authorities on the other hand are much more open to corruption. With the Tong ending, a situation exists where many new factions would build themselves up as fast as possible, and after 20 years would have reached the stage for inter-faction rivalry and global domination again.
