All good points, but I've never played NecroAge till now. I'm playing TG with TFix and occasionally switching to NecroAge to see how things look different, something that I could not do on the fly with HDmod.
I must say NecroAge feels rather close to the original, even closer than the bloated HDMod, despite NecroAge's non-canon art direction. I love it, I really could not get back to HDmod.

yeah, NecroAge pretty much hits the spot despite the slightly darker tones. it doesn't need that much cpu and gpu power, and the on/off at any point option is nice to have as well. also, I have already started to tweak the maps with NecroAge in mind, so things will only get better.

Interesting! For example?

classic stuff - lowres orig textures that look fine might need different offsets and rotations to look good when replaced by hires ones (as you don't see the bad offset with the lowres origs). ground textures used on walls sometimes (again, doesn't matter with the origs, but obvious when hires). the Cragscleft tunnels would be a good example.

Anyway, my question is: is the vanilla Thief Gold still without colored lights, even if running on New Dark? I thought it would be updated to Thief 2 look and feel at the very least.
I'm curious how you think the engine would magically know what colors to change the lights to, since the original maps obviously don't have any colored lighting data.
voodoo47 on 27/5/2016 at 13:44
actually, they do - it's quite obvious that colored lighting was already at horizon when they were building the maps, so the values are sometimes there, but they do nothing in Dark 1.37 or older, as colored lighting didn't get implemented in T1/TG Dark in the end.
that's why relighting a T1 level under NewDark can sometimes yield rather colorful results for no apparent reason.

Use your immagination for once. It's obvious, I hoped a bunch of little smurfs would do the thankless job of adding colored lighting to every single light source in every single map of the game.

I'm with Abysmal on wanting as vanilla a Thief 1 experience as possible. I've actually always thought, since playing under NewDark, that it wasn't as "un-enhanced" as it could be, and, based on what I've read here, it's because the AI models aren't the originals (I knew something was off!).
Any chance TFix lite works with a CD install of the game, or would I have to buy Thief off GOG to use it?
Jax64 on 29/5/2016 at 03:31
It will work for almost all versions, provided you have a full install. It definately does work for the original CD version, I know I have applied it sometime in the past.

as long as you have a full, complete Thief install, yeah, the GOG/lite patch should work.
allright lunatics, you win, I'll make the lite patch available in the TFix home topic (merging in the latest batch of dml fixes I've linked a couple of post above). no integration into TFix proper though.
