I'm digging the instrumentals, the rest not so much.

It's very cool and all, and I'm not knocking it, but what's up with Trent Reznor giving away all his music lately?
I know Trent has been very public recently about the prices of cd's, especially down here in Australia. The anecdote I heard was that it all stememd from the fact that a Britney CD was released by his label cheaper than his CD (both were released around the same time), the logic being that Trent's fans are raving mad about his music and will pay more for it. I figure he is just trying to price music at its actual worth rather than feeding his label anymore.
That, and he would be a ridiculously wealthy person already.

Yeah, thankfully. I like the "poppier" side of his music. Haven't listened to any of his stuff since With Teeth, the idea of purely instrumental NIN albums turns me of completely. "1,000,000" is almost as good as "The Hand that Feeds", perhaps even better. And I like the fact that my iPod displays a different album-cover for every track on this album. Sorta like painted interpretations of the songs.

Wait, are you being facetious? The hand that feeds was the worst song on With Teeth IMO. There was a less-popish version out that was actually pretty OK but the one that made it to the album was just a radio/mtv single as far as I'm concerned.

If you get this, the terrorists win

Are YOU being facetious? Seriously? Worse than Getting Smaller, Sunspots and even The Collector?
I remember reading an interview with Trent in Revolver magazine where he said he thinks The Hand that Feeds shouldn't have been on the album because it's too poppy. I just don't get that attitude. If the man could pull his head out of his ass and stop with the non-conformist emo posturing his output would be better. He lets his insecurity cloud his judgement because he doesn't want anyone to think for a second that he's pop.

And the word "pop" itself has nearly lost all meaning. How descriptive can it be when you can use it to refer to anything from CSS to Olivia Tremor Control? It's like a catch-all for "music with happier undertones"... kinda pointless now.

Just got it and must say it is complete and utter shit. So bland and uninspired. Reznor can't seem to write good hooks anymore, the limitations of his voice are becoming more noticable and his lyrics, while never that great in the first place, are now downright laughable. This is the first new NIN album I have heard since 'The Fragile', the others I only listened to the singles, so if there has been a steady decline I missed it. I only heard a drastic decrease in quality.
I will say that the instrumental tracks were okay, certainly not great but alright background music, so maybe I'll check out Ghosts I-IV

No matter I'll get all the discs at the music store.

It has been a steady decline in my opinion. I didn't think much to With Teeth, but The Slip makes it sound respectable now. :(
Then along came Year Zero with a more creative promotional campaign than the actual album.
Blehh.
