Just catched time on weekends to "play" again with editor... Last time I used T3ED, I had Catalyst 4.10 installed. Now I have newest 5.9 and I'm not able to use even standard material libraries :( If I load particular matlib, application crashes immediately with error in ntdll; if I load all matlibs, it loads without errors but crashes when I choose some library in textures view combo. When I rolled back on 5.8, problem is gone. My graphic is Radeon 9600XT.
I would not blame anybody with this post (I'm sure it is more error of editor creators than ATI driver programmers; but I think original editor users never used different hardware/drivers configurations for work, thus, some bugs were not revealed), just to warn others about possible problem :)

I don't think there have been many reports of drivers "breaking" the editor, possibly because most are too afraid of upgrading. Might be an idea to add this to [wiki]GraphicsCardIssues[/wiki]. I see there is no driver section, so this might be a good place to start.

I've added some chapter regarding particular ATI driver problems on this wiki page. Not sure should we create special category for this.

Finally I found that I was wrong regarding this bug with Catalyst 5.9. The story was: I've used Radlinker to run Thief 1&2 (to force antialiasing and anisotropic filtering); it seems as somehow it clears "support of DXT textures" registry flag that is used by Catalyst 5.9 but not 5.8.
I deleted corresponding info from Wiki but not chapters about bugs with drivers. I think we may fill it out later:)

I would advise against wikifying reports of "bugs" based on a single user experience without more thorough testing. This is the sort of thing that leads to rumours like the mythical 7 mb limit on UNR size that was floating around on this forum some time ago.

OrbWeaver, I agree, it is why I posted this message here first time instead of Wiki :) But as scumble said (and I also agree with him) most are not installing new versions of drivers, sadly. For example, when I switched to Catalyst 4.10 from 4.4 I found good antialiasing performance improvement for my Radeon 9600XT...

It wasn't a criticism of you (or scumble), just a piece of general advice.
The problem is that graphics drivers are so complicated, it is very easy to upgrade and find something isn't working, and the tendency to state "version x.xx does not work" is very strong*. In fact, it is more than likely such a problem is caused by a changed default setting that the game doesn't like, or a change you made in the previous version that has been overwritten.
*This is actually a big problem in everyday discussion; I know somebody who stated categorically that "separates" hi-fi systems are less reliable than all-in-one "midi" systems because he knew
three friends whose separates systems had broken at some point (without any reference to context, number of people with each type, make/model/age etc.).

It's not really a problem if erroneous reports are removed. It would be good if some more intrepid individuals would try newer drivers so that we start to get a picture of the kinds of improvements to be had, as T3 is a bit of a resource eater. Perhaps if any people who have upgraded would post some comments, that would be helpful, as others might be encouraged to follow.
