Any chance of seeing one-handed weapons held a little closer to center and supported under the grip by the other hand?

Why would you hold a plasma/laser pistol that way though? Virtually It doesn't have a kickback virtually, you don't need two hands to aim. For the Talon, on the other hand... (Are there more one-handed weapons apart from this two anyway?)

why???

You'd hold it that way because it's a handgun and that's how you hold a handgun. You wouldn't go "Oh, this is an energy weapon, so I can bend my elbow all funny and shoot it from out beside my head with total accuracy and just have faith that it'll hit my target!" You'd pick it up and fire it like any other handgun.
Honestly, if you were to hold a gun in real life like is done in a lot of games, you'd have to elevate your elbow up to shoulder level and throw it out to the side. That's just really awkward.

You
would have the same accuracy with one hand using energy weapons, since they have no kickback. If you trained a lot with an energy weapon (at least with like the ones in SS2), you'd get used to the lack of kickback and would use just one hand to hold it. Having a free arm with no loss of accuracy is a valuable thing. (Not to mention you're a cyborg in the game, so knowing which weapon needs one or two hands for optimal useage should be no problem.)
edit: The way games hold the guns is quite unrealistic, agreed. But then again, you don't have feet/body either - you can't simulate real sight 100% with a monitor, just as you can't mimic moves 100% with a mouse-keyboard (or gamepad) combo.

Even if the weapon had no kickback, one would still have to hold it so that it lines up with one's dominant eye and the target, one-handed or not. All I'm saying is that two-handed shooting is a trained reaction, from holster to center to supporting out to firing. Consider also, when you say only one hand is needed, that a laser pistol would probably be heavier -- all the batteries and such -- than a normal pistol made of lightweight space age polymers, especially with the laser pistol being "early generation" (as bulky and non-streamlined as it is compared to the normal pistol, it must be).
I happen to think Half Life did a pretty good job with the way the player holds handguns. Close to center, just very slightly off center to allow for handedness/eye-dominance.

Since you can carry twelve assault rifles/grenade launchers with a million grenades and bullets on your back while wearing a heavy armor, I'd rule out the weight of the handgun having any serious role. ;) As for shooting being trained action, it might not be. The cybermodule upgrades contain stuff that gets directly into the brain, and there are also implants in googles that could very well make him able to aim this way.
I never really thought that HL was any better in that aspect tbh. Just different way of modelling, but nothing closer to the feeling of holding a real gun. :erm:

And exactly how familiar do you happen to be with that feeling?

My father's brother (what's that? uncle?) is a hunter, and has two guns and handgun at home. Not that I ever fired it too much, but I did try a few times.

Ok guys none of this is terribly important. Its quite standard to simulate the perspective angle of holding a gun by having it come in from the side. Lets not complicate the design further by having to add another arm and taking up more screen. Somebody's gotta model this after all and its perfectly believable the way it is currently. Besides, one arm cuts down on polys which is a good thing so lets try and cut some corners if we can right?
