Now, I'll tell you what we really need... a replacement for that tinker-toy laser pistol!
As far as I can recall, you are the first person to ever complain about the design of the laser pistol. I don't think there's anything wrong with it (aside from general low-polyness). I don't think anyone else has a problem with it either.
If you feel this strongly about it, maybe you should start a poll thread.
Anyway, maybe FunkyG and Eldron should coordinate their efforts to produce a unified weapon upgrade pack. That would certainly make life easier for the end users, and eliminate any weirdness with each weapon having a different-looking player arm.
BTW, has anyone ever noticed that the cycling lights on the laser pistol change direction when you drop it?

Impressive!
As to the Farscape pistol design ( or the show itself, actually ), personally I don't like it much. Nice rendition of the pistol though, and blisteringly fast as well.
And on the backface culling - have at it, Dark likes it. :-)

Somehow the AR in game looks vastly different than the one originally posted. Now I assume this is because you reduced the poly count which is cool but I really liked the shape of the original picture and this one seems less attractive in shape...is it just the angle its at? dunno but the first picture was way cool.
I have to agree with ZB about the laser pistol. Yeah it wasn't terribly fancy, geometrically but I don't think there's any reason to change it. What you have looks very good from a modelling perspective but I don't like the particular style of gun. And I think this is where you might get into trouble. You can't go wrong sticking to the original design (give or take some detail) but when you make something different, you run the risk of appealing to some and not to others. However nobody can be dissatisfied with an improved version of the original (ie. it "resembles" the original but perhaps has some more curves, grooves, etc)
Awesome work btw...for the next weapon I'd say try for any of the exotic weapons or maybe the emp rifle
P.S. what did you do to get the model in the game looking right? How did you get the orientation, size, etc correct? How do you place the location of the muzzle fire?

I like the new <strike>laser</strike>plasma pistol. :)
And about not appealing to everyone: No one will get forced to use it right?
Briareos H on 29/5/2006 at 16:56
Yeah, textured right, the new laser gun has awesome potential. Great work !
As for the AR, something just doesn't feel right, I don't know what... could be attenuated a lot by textures though.

That is true...

I agree with this. For an 'upgrade pack', the models should look as close to the originals as possible (where possible); something that looks too far different from the original should be kept for an optional mod.
Point in case: The apple for my Thief 2 Enhancement Pack; I thought it looked good, but it just wasn't right compared to the original one (mainly because I made it green since I didn't have a good red apple texture handy).

well funkyg, I haven't planned doing anything more for ss2, since it's such a pain in the ass, and I'm generally doing too much art everywhere else too :/

Mmmm. Nice models plasma pistol, even though I don't think it's much needed as I loved the original design too (save for it's lowpolyness). Thumbs up here. Thumbs down at the AR though... The original AR of yours had that odd feeling of the barrel "glued" to the body; the new is simply too robust for me - it looks more akin to the Sturmgewehr than a modern assault rifle, not to mention an assault rifle supposedly being used in the future. I guess texturing could change all what I said though.
In the end, great modeling - wish I was anywhere close to your level. Nice work. :thumb:
