IMHO, main inaccuracy of most reviewers -- they rate Arx like pure RPG. But this not right! They compare Arx to: Morrowind, Neverwinter Nights, other pure RPGs. Arx Fatalis is other game! It must be compared to Deus Ex, System Shocks and even to Thief. Arx have many RPG elements, but most of gameplay (IMHO) is -- immersion, atmosphere, exploration, experience, story, feelings -- not just stupid statistics! Can someone compare Morrowind to System Shock2 ? No! They are not comparable, different genres/type.
Developers from begining should be show up Arx as not only RPG, and even almost not RPG. What I see in review sites? ...RPG section... I dont like RPG! I like first person clever immersion simulators. So, I even didnt enter in RPG section. And didnt see info about amazing ARX FATALIS game...
Now times of mixing many genres in many games and Arx Fatalis is child of this time. But many many reviewers not discover that fact. I disappointed... because game damn good!

Eh, there are no pure RPGs, all games today are either hybrids [SS2, Deus Ex,...] or highly specialised extremes [Diablo 2, Serious Sam]. Poking at what RPGs truly are is a hornets` nest I'd rather not touch again. Even in the old days, you had the hack'n'slash of Bard's Tale on one side and the almost adventure-game like text RPGs on the other.
Nowadays you could probably put out a fighting game and have it labelled as RPG because it had character development in it...
