mixed reviews....i guess one of the reviewers didnt like it

Not many spoilers, really... but some overly jaded reviewers. The guy from ferrago acted like he REALLY wanted the game to be better than it was, but in the end still gave it 4/5 score, saying it was really good. The one at madgamers clearly has something against the genre/setting, and uses that bias to spour his impressions of the entire game. In fact, many of the so-called facts he points out about the game (I'm not talking about his opinions here) are simply wrong. It's obveous to me that he hasn't played the whole game... not even half.

considering that the madgamers' review is the only review I've yet seen to give Arx less than 80%, I don't think it's just Digi blindly defending Arx.

Don't forget that the reviews will influence people who may not be as 'dedicated' as we are. There are many, many games that I wouldn't even bother downloading the demo for as it would not be worth my time. Instead I rely on the opinions of reviews that I trust.

It would seem that the user interface is the one thing that most people have difficulty with. I certainly found fighting to be awkward in the first demo. I didn't really feel that I had control over my character's actions although that could quite easily be inexperience.

there was quite (http://arx.rpgdot.com/popup.php?popup=6&id=12373) a fierce discussion going on at RPGdot about the madgamers review.

simple summary:

anti reviewer: "WFT? %@$#@#@ grrrr          ...wanker"
pro reviewer: "It's just an opinion, you don't have to agree"
anti reviewer: "The review states a number of negative 'facts' that just aren't true"
pro reviewer: "That's not true!"
anti reviewer: "Is too! here's a list of these so called 'facts' "
pro reviewer: "It's still an opinion.          ...besides the reviewer is not a wanker"
anti reviewer: "It's lies.          ...and, yes, he is!"

I'm going to cut all but the most recent of my review-link replies (i.e. a reply containing just a link to a review I've noticed) out of this thread, to keep the size down... All the links I'm deleting have been edited in at the top of the thread.

Some of the replies below this point were probably written in response to one of the links I've just deleted, so this thread may not make complete sense anymore :)
