My feelings of bitterness in response to the DX2 comments have nothing to do with my feelings for DX1, which I also love.
I guess I could understand some exasperation with the "burn the witch" attitude, but... "bitterness"? Isn't this word a bit strong? (Or is this again me who have problems with semantics)
As for the "change patrol route" thing, like BlackCapedManX said, my real problem is that I don't like having one skill being able to handle everything. I don't mind an "acting" skill to persuade a guard to go elsewhere for a while AND a hacking skill to disable electronics and bots, but I don't like having one skill to rule them all. With Deus Ex my character had strong points and weak points and choosing meant choosing what I could do best. With Invisible War my character could do anything and choosing was more about what I wanted to do. The impact on the gameplay was enormous.
What this really means is I want two paths : One mainly with guards, the other mainly with robots... and I want to have to choose the correct one, according to my own skill. I need two different skills for that. A unified skill is a bad idea.

Yeah, bitterness is a bit strong ... I wans't really picking my words carefully.
And on the subject of not picking my words carefully ... I see I've not been describing the patrol route idea very well. When I said it would be a hacking ability, I didn't actually mean it would be something you could do with the hacking skill in particular, I meant it would be an ability that would be aesthetically presented as something for a "hacking guy". Similar to how electronics and hacking were distinct, but aesthetically similar, skills in DX.
