If that's seriously aimed at me, then no.
Okay, you got me. I wasn't serious. I'm striking at you because I can't reach Transocean and BP mostly. Though you did puzzle the fuck out of me at a time when my mind is raw with gulf memories. Had you stated it as Queue did I might have understood it better but the way you said it was high horse ass high.
I understand consevation and tend to let the conservation laws work as implemented by the game wardens. It has worked damn well for flagging local species such as the wild turkey and bald eagle. You can't drive down any sidestreet now without a turkey aiming for your windshield. What has decimated fish species is the large commercial operations, particularly during the 1970s.
The laws are strict now. Anytime a fish of any sort is taken they must be between certain weight and length limits. They have those clearly posted on all fishing boats and THEY ARE DAMNED SERIOUS ABOUT THEM. This allows for populations to increase, though for some the climb is slow due to thier large range and the commercial fleets that still net them such as foreign fleets that don't give a shit. Sport fishermen WANT the population to increase and left up to them they will.
I know first hand the bluefin were making a comeback. I've caught and released them. I guess you could say I've harrased them but I don't know of any way to keep the peckerheads from biting squid. I fish a few feet off the bottom which is not supposed to be thier range but you still get them sometimes now. Or did. Now, well now we are fucked.
I had wanted to tell my memories of visiting my uncle at Gulfport before Camile wiped him out and the times I've taken my family to the coast. But I'm spent. Not because of this thread but just the desolation of watching the news. People worry about it reaching Florida and I'm not downing that but the coast was the best thing going for my state. I mourn this on a personal level.
