Limbaugh should be beaten with a dead manatee.
Forty-some thousand years of humanity increasingly endangered and nullified by eighty-some years of technology...
On a whole, we've become so dependent upon keeping the oil flowing and the coal burning, and the technologies attached to each, that if it all stopped tomorrow a good chunk of the human race would most likely end.
Yet, we keep on a drilling and digging because to do otherwise would jeopardize the economy.
To me, that's the really sad thing.

All fishing in the gulf is stricty controled, Vivian. All fish must be within particular weight limits to be kept. Even the abundant snapper. The US has more laws than any other country concerning fishing rights. I've never caught a tuna I could keep but I've eaten some that were legal in restaurants. I'm unsure of the particular type but since they would lose thier license I'm fairly certain it was legal. However the gulf is one of the most populous areas left for bluefin. Or was.
You could of course google it.

'Legal' is not the same thing as 'a good idea', unfortunately - as for local populations, would you go to South Africa to eat a cheetah steak? The bluefin is critically endangered. You shouldn't be eating them at all. Sorry.
PS what happened to all those oil eating bacteria you were supposed to be able to just pour on slicks? Did they manage to make them or not?
BrokenArts on 1/5/2010 at 18:59
I'm sorry what is this discussion about again? Ohh right not eating bluefin.
Vivian on 1/5/2010 at 19:39
It's about not completely undercutting whatever (totally valid) eco shock horror story you're shocked and horrified about by casually mentioning that you eat critically endangered species. Which is a bit like decrying climate change from a soapbox made of Siberian tigers.

You may want to refer to Tocky on that, I never said I did. It doesn't matter whether I do or not. You forgot many TTLGer's that also eat sea food. Eating of seafood isn't the issue. You keep making it that. What is the problem anyway Vivian?
I'm saddened by the environment impact this will have on the TOTAL coastal line. Don't forget about the birds, oh yeah, I eat chickens, does that count? Yes, I eat seafood, I won't say what, you'll have my head on a platter. I know you won't eat it though. Are you vegetarian by chance?
Vivian on 1/5/2010 at 20:26
Never said you did. Before you try and discount me as some vegetarian communist or wtf, of course it's not all seafood, but there is a lot to be cautious of. Bluefin tuna are, as I have said a few times, extremely ecologically important and extremely close to being extinct. It makes you look like an idiot if you try to rail against how mans ignorance or apathy is destroying the natural world but are happy eating one of the more important elements of the global marine ecosystems into extinction because no one told you not to loud enough.

Yeah,Vivian, we got it the third time - Tocky is a tuna chomping hypocrite.
Now can we have our thread back?
Vivian on 1/5/2010 at 20:46
Few, at least someone did. Sure, just making a point.
