Yeah, for a randomly picked audience member, he was quite a good sport and even rather funny.

This was one of those shows that I should have liked but never did, I like the panel format (worked for
Have I Got News For You and
Whose Line Is It Anyway) and despite not being a music geek, I could still get much of the humour derived from the source material. I honestly think it must have been that slimy fuck Mark Lamarr, because I've just laughed my ass off at two consecutive episodes hosted by Amstell. Lamarr was just a prick, I intensely disliked his personality, even his voice. The new guy is pretty excellent and he makes the show eminently more likable.

The one thing I object to is Phil Jupitus!
I would agree if it weren't for his sublime zing against Amstell in an episode I just watched: "You look like you've been drawn by children." Classic.

He's not taking the piss out of Preston is he though, he's taking the piss out of his wife.
Quite. It's one thing being able to laugh at yourself but for Preston to sit there and laugh at his wife (whom presumably he loves and cares about) in a derogatory way whilst someone takes the piss wasn't really an option.
Having said that, if he anticipated it happening and all he had to pull out the bag was to sit there and look surly, he really shouldn't have been there in the first place.
I'm betting the paycheck looked nice and he didn't really think that choice completely through.

What did you expect, The Guardian?
Ulukai on 19/2/2007 at 19:55
It's more of a Telegraph story, isn't it?
You're missing the point. Preston may or may not have called his wife a bimbo (besides, it seemed affectionate "She's dizzy, but clever") but he quite obviously doesn't feel comfortable sitting on a television programme where people are taking the piss out of her. So why would he be annoyed if he didn't care about her?
Fingernail on 19/2/2007 at 20:27
Well it's more down to the fact that he knows he looks like a pillock for having married her, probably, and frustration that it's coloured any media attention towards him or his band (who are, let's face it, absolutely nothing special; their name is pretty accurate)
Ulukai on 19/2/2007 at 20:36
Yeah, that doesn't sound like an unreasonable explanation.
ALSO WTF MENS TOTALLY POSTING ON INTERNETS IN CHANTELLE AND PRESTON THREAD SEND HELP K THX :(

Preston was clearly not going to outwit Amstell. He should have just punched the rat faced little prick and then stormed out, maybe damaging some of the set on the way. Instead he just moped off in a girly huff -- what a tart!
