Considering all the hype that surrounded this episode I thought it was rather disappointing really, and picking on Preston and his bit of fluff out of Big Brother? It's not exactly difficult, is it?
Still, Amstell is a great host. I think he blows Lamarr out of the water.

I must confess that I stopped watching when Amstell took over, being unimpressed with his first couple of shows. Has he improved at all?

I did like Lamarr, and I do like Amstell generally although haven't seen that much of his buzzcocks presenting since I don't have a TV at the moment and can't be bothered to youtube everything.
He does push it a little far though; it was funny but a little painful, much like his popworld interview with the Kooks where he seriously pissed off the singer. However, it sort of shows up a degree of insecurity (or false arrogance, indeed) in people if they can't laugh at themselves.

I thought he was excellent from the start, but then I had previously caught the occasional episode of Pop-World on a bleary sunday morning and thought he was great in that too.
I just think he's pretty much a minature Mark Lamarr, but Jewish and slightly less angry.

Since I can only watch the episodes on YouTube I catch them completely out of order; saying that, I really like Amstell best. And given all the teasing that's happened to so many of the guests on the show, Preston's wasn't the worst by far (although he did take it the worst. I'd understand if he took them in good spirit at the start, then got offended when they just kept coming, but he looked all grumpy after the first one already).

I remember that Simon and Akon seemed to have a genuinely warm relationship, which was peculiar. I dunno about him on buzzcocks though - I was a big fan of mark lamarr, even if he did look blatantly autocued (simon is a bit better at that). The one thing I object to is Phil Jupitus! Not content with looking like a fat george michael and being offensively unfunny, he was present at, nay,
in charge of the unholy ressurection and corpse-fucking of one of my favorite bands from yesteryear, (
http://www.bonzodog.co.uk/) Bonzo Dog. Who on earth put the idea into his head that a bloated gimpoid like himself was even a half-way acceptable subsitute for the late, great (and also my namesake) Vivian Stanshell?

He's not taking the piss out of Preston is he though, he's taking the piss out of his wife. Important distinction. I'm sure Amstell thought he was being funny when he read bits of her book, but he just came over as sneering and snobbish.

I know posting youtube links here isn't popular but I thought this was worth a post
Why is that, exactly? Is there a specific policy against posting YouTube links?
Like Uncia, I can only view Buzzcocks on YouTube, and I also find Amstel generally funnier than Lamarr. I wasn't even aware of the show a week ago, so I'm not thinking of Amstel as "replacement", but since then I've watched everything I've found and started to like him rather a lot. Much of that probably stems from that I didn't expect that much sarcasm from such a tiny little person who looks like he's twelve years old. Sometimes, though, I do think he goes a little bit too far and enters bullying territory. I rather enjoyed how he teased Donny Tourette to the point of almost leaving, but that's probably because Donny was being so annoyingly "punk". I have no idea who Preston is, so I found his walking off slightly less amusing.

The bore hole driller was far more entertaining :)
