Hello,
I am having a problem with multiplayer using Hamachi. I think the problem stems from the game NOT using the Hamachi IP. My network setup is as follows:
Bellsouth DSL using Westell Wirespeed
Linksys WRT54G Router
2 Windows XP Pro workstations (the same problem occurs on both computers)
I start up Hamachi and it connects successfully and I am able to ping the computer that is hosting the game. When I attempt to join, I get a Join Failed message.
I have successfully connected once or twice, but am now not able to join any MP game. What happens is that SS2 seems to want to use the internal address of my router (192.168.1.97) instead of using the Hamachi address. It is this address that displays when I choose host a game. I am sure that the same thing is happening when I try to join a server. Obviously I will not be able to connect a 192.168.1.X address with the Hamachi network.
Since it happens on both the machine on my LAN, I am pretty sure there is some kind of router or network setting that needs to be tweaked, but for the life of me, I can’t figure it out.
Has anyone else had this problem? No matter what I do, the game still wants to use my internal router IP.
Thanks

It's a common problem.
You have two possibilities:
* If your firewall supports it, configure it to block SS2 from accessing the network that you use to connect to the Interent, and allow it to only access the Hamachi network. This is the best option.
* Disconnect from the Internet by disabling the network that you use to connect to it, but leave the Hamachi network enabled. Start SS2 and host the game. It should detect your Hamachi IP. Now, alt-tab back to Windows and re-enable the Internet network. When you get back to SS2, it should still be using the Hamachi IP. This may not work, and, even if it does, you will have to do it every time you want to host a game.

Many thanks...that is what the problem was. I have the Windows Firewall and the firewall provided by my PC Cillin Antivrius software. I was not able to make the firewall thing work, but it looks like disabling the Internet Connection, and then turning it back on might do it. I just need to get hold of my buddies and try it out, but it worked on my LAN.
Interestingly enough, I had tried to experiment with an old laptop I have. I can get it to work if I use the wireless card, or if I use the PCMCIA network card, but not if I use the onboard network card on the back of the laptop.
Thanks again for the quick response, you are my hero!!..LOL
