I loved Netflix for about the first 2 months I was a member. I didn't realize that I was being throttled. I just thought maybe the service had become so popular that they had trouble keeping movies in stock. When I started picking all obscure movies, thinking no one would have them out, I still didn't get movies in a timely fashion. That's when I quit Netflix. I did try Blockbuster for about 1/2 year. They were much better, but I didn't have the time to keep movies in my queue. One good thing about Blockbuster was I got coupons for 2 free movies or games each month. If you do the math, and rent 2 games, then your subscription basically almost paid for itself in this way. Why are games so expensive to rent from Blockbuster? Anyhoo, vote for Pedro.

Pedro is politically inexperienced.

Fett's absolutely right.
So vote for Pedro!
He's running for Secretary of the U.S. Department of the Interior.

Ledd: I wasn't referring to your post about the critiqueing, I meant the smartass first 3 posts.
Yeah, the Blockbuster coupons sound like a good deal, but the problem is I don't think there is a blockbuster that close to us - the close one is Hollywood, and while there are certainly Blockbusters in the citie they are probably at least a 10 or 15 minute drive.
As for the throttling, I'll fully believe NetFlix does it, but the question is: does Blockbuster? it seems like one would have to do some sort of practice like that to not lose money on the matter. But yeah, throttling sucks, but as busy with schoolwork as I am, I find Netflix DVDs sitting on the table unwatched for days anyway, so it's not really a problem.

(

From what you've said, it certainly sounds like Netflix suits your needs perfectly. If it aint broke... :)

So, a year later, I'm in Ms. Ledd's boat. Netflix was fine at first - while they didn't always meet their claims (namely, that they ship out your new DVD the same day you mail out the old one) things were fine. Now it's going insane. I mailed in something on Thursday or Friday, for instance. Now it's Tuesday, and I haven't got anything. They didn't even claim to have gotten it back till Monday. WTF.
So yeah, I'll definitly check out blockbuster. My only concern is that I rent a fair amount of obscure or old movies/TV shows, so I gotta check first to make sure Blockbuster has them in stock.
I'm assuming everything is still good with them?
Edit: Just found GamesNFlix.com . You can rent both console games and movies - and apparently for slightly cheaper than Netflix or Blockbuster, and WAY cheaper than Gamefly. If their service/selection is good, it sounds like the way to go.
Edit 2: Normal shipping time for them is 2-5 business days...well, at least they're honest about it. Rats. I guess that's why they're so much cheaper than Gamefly.
Edit 3: Seems like Blockbuster's website is a mess - as a test, I tried adding Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex to my queue, and it doesn't work - for some strange reason, they have Disc 1 listed seperatly from the rest of the series, and when I try adding the series to my queue it only adds disc 7. What happened to discs 2-6?

The novelty of Netflix was cool for me at the beginning, and it's actually pretty well paced if you've got kids, but don't want them in front of the TV every night. But yeah - I can drive to the nearest processing center in 5 hours, and it takes roughly 10-14 business days between movies. -
Aerothorn on 7/3/2007 at 03:38
10-14? Even mine isn't that bad - I'm bitching about a 3-4 day gap here. With 10-14, that's not queue throttling, that's highway robbery/a broken system. You should write them a letter.
