Yes, I did get carried away. I guess the reason for my faulty logic is that the only foreign films I ever watch are ones that are recommended to me, and since I do not have the time to investigate for myself is probably the reason why there isn't more foreign films in my favorites list. But I still harbor this naive romantic thought that outside of Hollywood there is a thriving conscientious foreign cinematic community.
PS. I forgot to mention Half Nelson.

They don't segregate Foreign Films, though. They have a category specifically for them so that at least one film not made by a US production company get's a major award, but sometimes they do cross over. Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon rather notably was nominated for both Best Foreign Film AND Best Picture.
Pan's Labyrinth has been nominated for a total of SIX Academy awards, including Best Original Screenplay (which is pretty damn rare for a foreign film, if not the first time it's ever happened), so it's not like it was exactly snubbed.
There are 3 things (imo) that are notable, and crazy, for their absence in this years Oscars: Children of Men should've been nominated for Best Picture, Alfonso Cuaron should've been nominated for Director for CoM, and Hugh Jackman should've gotten a Best Actor nod for probably the most rawly emotional performance I've ever seen in The Fountain.

I'm not going to launch into a huge response on the topic. My favorite movies of 2006 were:
The Fountain
The Illusionist
Casino Royale
Fearless
Children of Men
Pan's Labyrinth
