In a rough order:
Muse - Black Holes and Revelations
I'm not a huge fan of Absolution, but I loved Origin of Symmetry. I think I may like this one even more. I'm sure I don't have why explain here.
Favorite track- Knights Of Cydonia
Belle & Sebastian - The Life Pursuit
Fans of their earlier work criticize this, since they changed their sound so much. Personally I like the new style just as much.
Favorite track- The Blues Are Still Blue
Gnarls Barkley - St. Elsewhere
Very interesting neo-soul type album. The first time I listened it was over my head, but it eventually started to take shape. Once it did, I realized there's a lot to like.
Favorite track- Smiley Faces
...And You Will Know Us By The Trail Of Dead - So Divided
Another radical departure from their previous sound, it seems like this band can't stay in one place. Luckily I've liked nearly everything they've done to this point.
Favorite Track- Wasted State Of Mind
White Whale - WWI
White Whale is the new project of Matt Suggs, an indie rocker who's been around for a while now. I really like the sea-influenced atmosphere the songs create. I'm looking foward to WWII or whatever their next project may be.
Favorite Track- Nine Good Fingers
Honorable Mentions
Espers - II- Paz aptly describes this one.
Islands - Return to the Sea- Reincarnation of The Unicorns, and just as good.
Wolfmother - Wolfmother- Stitch said it best: "Utterly ridiculous and rightfully so".
Stuart A. Staples - Leaving Songs- Just cause I love Tindersticks.
Beck - The Information- Not my favorite of his, but still pretty good.
Disappointments
The Decemberists - The Crane Wife- They seem to have lost the element that made me love the earlier albums so much. It still has its moments though.
Tenacious D - The Pick Of Destiny- I liked a lot of the songs on the first album, but aside from 'Kickapoo' this one doesn't have much to offer.

Earth - Hex
That is all that happened in 06. You think you had a good year, you didn't. You didn't hear this album and you certainly will never hear this album. And you don't need to. It doesn't matter.
When I was younger I got well fucked off because of pretentious cunts and I still do get pissed off with pretentious cunts. But one thing that I realised is that of all the groups. the indie groups most of all, have no say in it
i want you all to know that steve reich will change your life if you just let him into your life.
and that's why i have no fear! because i know that anyone i've talked to about it has seen it and loves it. literally you are a beast otherwise, fuck you, you think you are alive but you aren't, you have no soul

Single of the Year:*
Justin Timberlake, "Sexyback" - A four minute vacuum-packed electro-funk classic complete with a spoken guided tour. Utterly brilliant.
I prefer the original quote:

fifteen years of synth funk and electro pop vacuum packed into a three minutes of brilliance, complete with songroadmap narration
But it's true, goddamnit, I hated the new Timberlake tracks but they've grown on me like a cancerous tumour that I've grown to love, giving it a nickname and taking it for long walks on the beach at sunset. That said, I did love a good portion of
Justified.
Anyway, I'm - as per usual - horrifically out of date when it comes to music and only yesterday did I decide that I needed to sample more of what 2006 has had to offer, so my list is pitiful. I've mostly been listening to soundtracks and free ambient stuff.
Best Albums:Muse - Black Holes and RevelationsNothing else needs to be said about this one, it's an ambitious, all-over-the-place album that verges on parody but it's still bloody excellent.
Eskimo Joe - Black Fingernails Red WineAnd so enters the first Australian band that I've been exposed to in a big way since I got over here (I'm not a Wolfmother fan), this album is brilliant. It's indie rock at it's finest, some brilliant anthems as well as some excellent melodies. I thoroughly recommend this to anyone with a hankering for some decent pop-rock/indie-rock as there's a lot to like here.
Pete Murray - See The SunAnother Australian, very laid back, mellow, acoustic guitar and vocals. Nice.
That's it really. I'm going to have to look up some new music soon anyway.

Im sorry babe i got carried away, we kiss all night why do you suddenly act like you don't want me?
Anyway what I'm trying to say especially to YOU scots, is that in 20 mins you'll be motherfucking sultans of swing!
You will never ever understand what I just said there, and that's cool. That's the way it goes kiddo. Yes dude I know that guy has another accent, isn't that amazing! The more effort we spent getting on would kick ass but we don't work like that because we have to make things hard for each and other.
I love you because i miss you

I enjoy fighting people
I really do, as a youth I was very much concerned with making people cry and scream and mostly scream. However, it doesn't work that way. HOWEVER, I want to kill my housemate because he has threatened Theo with violence. Compromise in full extreme, guaranteed I got something, a royal disease. He is leaving the fuck out of this place, he's gone, the spoilt little shit wont even see how fucking insane i'm about to get on him
he thinks its all good
that insane twat has no idea how i develop my fist into a shard of glass where I fucking end him. how dare he threaten theo, how dare he
he has no right
im going to kill him

1.The Mars Volta-Amputechture
This cd is so violently good it makes me want to cry. Although they still haven't managed to surpass the initial brilliance that was Deloused in the Crematorium, it was still a damn fine effort. The sucker punch of the last for songs is blindingly good. Makes up for Francis the Mute and then some.
2.Johnny Cash-American V: A Hundred Highways
At once a devastating and beatiful album to listen to. Rick Rubin truly did work some magic with the arangments on this album, and to hear the mighty man in black sound so frail was a powerful experience. Truly a great obituary, if nothing else. "God's gonna strike you down" isn't half bad, either
3.Pearl Jam-Pearl Jam
The first studio album from these guys that was actually halfway consistent (their live albums are pretty incredible). Although the first couple of singles wore a bit thin after time, there was enough variety to warrant repeat listenings.
4.Thom Yorke-The Eraser
This man seriously is a genius, although I am losing hope for the next Radiohead album to make it out by the end of the year, this is enough to tide me over. Although it is a really good cd, I'm hoping it is the last in this Kid A.-eskegenre for Thom Yorke and co, otherwise they seriously risk destroying what made them so damn respectable:that they took risks, evolved, and excelled at every step of the way (discounting Pablo Honey).
5.Tool-10,000 days
Once again a band that I feel is in a steady demise, it is pretty bloody impressive that they manage to pull this one off. This deserves to get a mention for having a cd case that doubles as fucking 3d glasses. Although it was patchy in parts, and I feel that the actual amount of music in each album is dwindling over time, when it was on it was white fucking hot.
Honerable Mentions
The Killers-Sam's Town. They played it way too safe on this one, but made it sound pretty damn good at the same time, and they have to be one of the coolest bands around right now
The Arctic Monkeys-Whatever people blablabla. Started off well, then the wheels fall off about six tracks in
How the fuck do they even make money?
My Chemical Romance-The Black Parade
An emo band trying to redo "The Wall", shame it was never gonna work because they don't have the musical or compositional skills of Pink Floyd, and they spend too much goddamn time concentrating on their video clips. I see this as a pretty painful trainwreck of a band collapsing under the hubris of their own image.
