EDIT: Just noticed that I replied to necroed thread!
Rob Zombie - Hellbilly Deluxe
Ulver - Blood Inside
Laibach - WAT
Jimi Hendrix - Are you experienced
Tom Waits - Mule variations
Impossible to make a top-5. I don't know if those are even my favorite albums, althought they are good. I also have so many other genres I like..

pssst, top 5 albums of 2006.
But anyway, since I couldn't make up my mind last December here's my 2006 top 5.
Tom Waits - Orphans
Todd Snider - The Devil You Know
The Dresden Dolls - Yes, Virginia
Gnarls Barkley - St. Elsewhere
CSS - Cansei De Ser Sexy
Honorable mentions:
Bob Dylan - Modern Times
Justin Timberlake - Futuresex/Lovesounds
Lily Allen - Alright, Still
Aimee Mann - Another Drifter in the Snow
Man, 2006 was a slow year for music, but 2007 is shaping up nicely.

What?
I'm not talking about the necroing. I don't give a shit about the necroing. I was just pointing out that this thread is about listing your top 5 albums from 2006. "Mule Variations" is from 1999. I don't know the release dates for the rest of them but I doubt they're all from 2006.

I actually caught up on a few albums I missed the first time round.
If I were to do it all over again I'd list Liars - Drum's Not Dead as album of the year. It's so dark and primal, and though it took me a few listens to really grasp it, it's now among my favourites.
Oh, and Ghostface's Fishscale would be up there as well, if only I could actually find it in-store somewhere.

What? Jimi didn't come out with
Are You Experienced? in 2006? That was a fucking great album. I can't wait for
First Rays of the New Rising Sun. ;)

I didn't respond to this at the time, because, quite frankly, I was MIA on music for almost all of last year, which I didn't even realize until this thread came up, and I couldn't come up with a single worthy title. But I did pick up two albums this spring that would have made my list, had I been timely:
Peeping Tom -
S/T: I'm pretty much a whore for Mike Patton, and don't know how I missed this release when it came out, especially since I'd been waiting for it since I first heard about it three years ago. It's a collaborative album, much like the spotty but occasionally brilliant
General Patton vs. the X-Ecutioners from '05, but it's supposed to be his "pop" album, and has a far wider range of artists involved, with Dan the Automator, and Norah Jones both taking turns. I'm hooked, it's the best thing I've heard from him since Angel Dust.
The Black Keys -
Magic Potion (and
Chulahoma): Again, I've been on these boys like white on rice since I first heard them a few years ago, and totally missed both of these releases. They took a while to grow on me, compared to the bombast of their previous albums, they're much more understated, but the hooks are fucking solid. I found myself on vacation this spring, rolling around Miami, top down in a mustang, smoking a cigar, and just lapping this shit up.
I'll throw
Lily Allen -
Alright, Still on there, even if it is unadulterated pop, but only because it's been on my little flash MP3 player at the gym, and it's been part of my routine for about 8 months now.
Oh, and speaking of cheese, I grabbed
Bob Marley -
The Reggaeton Mixes a couple of weeks ago (needed a few CDs for the rental, since I couldn't jack in my iPod). Some of the songs are just atrocious, but a couple ("Fussing and Fighting" and "Stand Alone") have already earned rotation in my five-star driving mix on my iPod.

A sleeper hit for me of 2006 turned out to be Junior Boys - So This Is Goodbye, I also fell in love with Death Cab for a Cute - Plans a bit late ('05 release).
Futuresex/Lovesound became one of my tops after a month or so of listening. There's really only one or two tracks of filler on there, the rest are really solid pop songs. On the flip side of the coin, I barely listen to Black Holes... anymore. It really wore out its welcome with me after a few months, now I can really only bear the first four tracks followed by City of Delusion and Knights of Cydonia... it somehow became a "great if they cut out the filler" album.
