Well for once I'd like to see no drama fagging up this thread. People complaining that Sypha's swear lasted only 22 days can open another thread in CC.
Thanks.
As for me, Augie March's Moo, You Bloody Choir is a very good AM album with some awesome songs (the One Crowded Hour single, for starters).
The new Muse is of course good (though I feel it wore out a bit).
The new Al Jarreau : Givin' It Up is quite nice. I'm not a huge fan though, but catchy tunes.
For the J-Pop/J-Rock/[nerdy eurotaku] take, Asian Kung-Fu generation 10th anniversary gave us two good albums this year in Fan Club and Feedback File.
French rock : definitely Merzhin's Pieds nus sur la braise. Excellent music, very often reminiscent of the best from Noir Désir, coupled with no less awesome lyrics.
A must have for anyone liking french songs, especially if they are in the process of learning the language (the lyrics are a perfect example of wonderful french without being "elite").
As for things I disliked : I still have some remains of my Epic/Power/Black/[insert dumbname here] Metal past and was utterly disappointed by Blind Guardian's A Twist in the Myth. I don't think I'll ever be interested in power metal after that.
As it was mentioned, special mention to Samael's experiment with Era One. However I'd prefer a much more "rock" album, as their next one seems to be. I can't wait for the 2007 Samael album.
All in all, not a so great year for new releases to me.

1.
Imogen Heap: Speak For Yourself. While techincally originally released in 2005, it was rereleased in 2006, and sweet holy merciful my-vocabulary-is-running-out-of-exceptionally-excellent-words DAMN it's good. It's very, very good. Everybody should buy it. Buy it now!
2. Covenant: Skyshaper. I was expecting them to have grown soft, but I was pleasantly surprised.
3. Lacrosse: Lacrosse (single). It's the most annoying pop music you ever heard. And you'll want to hear it again, until your brain implodes to prevent you from ever hearing it again.
4: Ramjac: Transfusions. Soul/funk/electronica/IDM. Amazingly funky noise. Two years from now, people will ask "Do you remember when you first heard Ramjac?". "-Hell yes!", other people will reply.
5. Depeche Mode: any of the live albums released this year. Yes, they released one double live album from every venue of their live tour this year. I have four. And the DVD. I am, clearly, a bit of an idiot. But they're all very, very good.

Justin Timberlake, Future Sex/ Love SoundsI really
really want to try to get over my initial disgust and try to hear this for the music that it truly is. It
has to be good, because it's on everybody's top-10 this year, no..? I just can't. Even though I rather like Timbaland. It's
Justin effing Timberlake, and his voice make me feel... shall we say,
uneasy. I should say "vomitous", but I'm not even sure that's a word...

ITT - 'noid devolves into buglunch.
I bet I can out-buglunch him any day, and all of you. Not that that's a particular goal of mine, just a skill I've seem to have acquired. In fact, I'm de-evolving right now.

Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Show Your Bones - As much as I loved their old sound, it turns out this band is phenomenal when they stop being the Yeah Yeah Yeahs and instead record a Pixies album.
Sorry for arriving slightly late to the party but it turns out Show Your Bones was a huge disappointment after the awesomeness that was Fever To Tell. Where's the rage, where's the rock? Thanks to Is Is for proving that they can still make good songs and exciting sounds, meaning SYB was a temporary blip!!

What about Deja Vu? That was pretty heavy. It was a bit more machined than their previous, but I loved it for that. It were pop. Fever to Tell still drags a bit with me, all the rawness and rawk just kinda hammers home the fact I've never seen them live and now due to their retarded popularity never will be able see them live.
