Does a longer post indicate that you are the biggest fan of Deus Ex or something? You guys are going overboard here...

I think there's a big difference between mechanical augmentation and nano-augmentation in terms of upkeep. Nano-augmentation binds with the body and is a permanent enhancement. The only major ongoing side effect we see is Simons' discomfort as a result of keeping it fully charged. With mechanical augmentation, however, you'll need maintenance. Actuators will seize up if not oiled, infections may develop around the mechanical bits, the body itself may reject the unwelcome additions. If a mechanical arm takes a few armor-piercing rounds, replacing it will be a pain in the ass- more surgery, followed by learning to use the new replacement and recovering from the operation. With nano-augmentation, the agent doesn't need to go through this whole process- get healed up like any normal person, and take a boost of nanites if necessary.

(...) the aug that apparently lets you convince people to shoot themselves? (which I am hoping is just me misreading the trailer).
Yes, you are misreading the trailer. Adam doesn't kill that guy, someone else hacks his brain (another reference to GITS) to force him to commit suicide, presumably to prevent Adam questioning him about the people he's searching for. And it's all very clear in the trailer: the guy shouts "Help... me...!" and Adam tries to reach him but it's too late.

So there's something (hacking??) that lets OTHER people force peeps to shoot themselves?
Either way, you're looking at brain control technology apparently existing in 2025, and that's not really terribly reassuring.
Seriously, I'm thinking they might as well call this "Ghost in the Shell: Human revolution", since it actually seems to share more with that setting than it does Deus Ex.
(will still play it, of course, but then I am a game whore)

Hacking the limb servos would be enough. The strongest mechanical elements overrides the guard's attempt to regain control of his arm with what's left of his neural system. I don't disagree on the GITS point but I don't see anything unconceivable either.

Well..I kinda wonder why they'd bother with Gunther and Anna's killphrases (which totally destroy the agent) if technology capable of overriding individual limbs exists: they could've simply immobilised them instead, or forced them to tapdance, or whatever.
"I am not a machine...I vill not....riverdance....aarrrgg" *tappity tap*

Who would design a mechanical limb to accept input from anything other than direct impulses from the brain?
Edit: I mean, that's like making an assault rifle remotely controllable. It adds little from a functionality standpoint but just invites hackers.

Fuck. That. Shit.
That does sound stupid as hell, although to be honest, I've played one game that switched between first/third person exactly like that and it wasn't a big deal (Rainbow Six Vegas). I think the third person FATALITY, er, takedown thing sounds way worse.

Maybe these backdoors could be the first equivalent to the killphrase, maybe miniaturizing explosives isn't yet a viable option.
Maybe I'm just making shit up and it was the next-gen Sony DRM rootkit :p
And while I agree that it'd be a stupid move to make something like that hackable, look at the boneheaded corps we have right now in real life... I don't think it's far-fetched. I'm sure they'd tout it as a "feature".
