Dang, missed my opportunity to start this thread with the title 'Pavarotti joins the choir invisible'. :(

For some reason, I was sure he was older.
A grand shame. I just listened to the Nessun Dorma linked and the passion he put into his singing was just incredible, look at him at the crescendo of the song at the end, he's just drained emotionally. I have a real respect for artists who pour themselves into what they do.

In a world where youth is celebrated and greatness is derived from an alchemists table there are seemingly few disciplines where maturity of mind and soul trump youth and vigor.
Pavarotti, Master Tenor.

Right, that explains all the Pavarotti recordings on Radio 3 yesterday evening...
They were also playing an old interview I presume. I was remarking to myself how unique his voice was. I can't say I'm in to Opera really, but I appreciate a distinctive voice.

Was very sad to hear this and desperately wish I hadn't lost my video and tape of the Three Tenors World Cup concert. Like a lot of people, I think, I started listening to bits and pieces of opera because of that. Have to say though that I prefer Jose Carreras' voice. And though I think that Pavarotti became a bit of a victim of his own hype, I also think he did opera an enormous service and he will be sorely missed.
PS Thank you for those links. Much appreciated.

Goodbye maestro.
(Ma dov'e quella inspirazione per scrivere belle cose quando ne hai piu' bisogno?)
(I wonder where is that inspiration to write good stuff when you need it the most?)
