I'm sure nobody cares about my melee only walkthroughs anymore, (hell, I don't) but raph telling me I couldn't update my site until he'd finished moving the site was a nice piece of reverse psychology, because I felt compelled to update the Deus Ex walkthrough.
Since it was lacking in screenshots, I played through in melee only tourist mode, and just finished taking what should be enough screenshots for the walkthrough. I still have to sort them and do the code work, and could use some advice in the meantime.
I used Fraps for this thinking that the shots would immediately be useable, but while the default setting is fine on my computer, it's probably too dark for others.
Here are 3 shots, with an increasing amount of gamma correction. Each links to a slightly larger version, since I can't even figure out how to get into Imageshack to upload the full sized copies:

I'd go for the last one as it's always nice to see things clearly in a walkthrough!

The first one looks the best, of course, but I'd go for the second one. The third is just too over-bright.
But you should double-check how they'll look on the white background of the site, that may call for extra brightening since it's hard to see dark images on light backgrounds.
Also, bear in mind that most people's browsers display images loaded on their own on a white background, so you might want to consider a black-backgrounded image-showing page for the large versions.

The last one looks best on my old CRT here.

Thanks for the advice everyone!
That's an interesting thought about each full shot being on its own page, it would be easier to see, but the full sized shots are so large that putting them on their own page would mean nobody could view the whole thing. Plus . . . 300 pages just for screenshots? :o
I think I'll adjust the gamma depending on the brightness of the images being worked with. Everything will get at least the amount of lightening in the second image, but the dark shots will receive the treatment in the last shot.
Actually, I'll share one last shot with you guys:

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v311/TheNightTerror/walkthrough_header.jpgI'll use this as an example of the naturally bright shots -- will they be useable like this? I gave it the amount of gamma correction in the middle shot I posted this morning, I doubt it needs the full amount of correction because the area is so well lit, but I could be wrong!
Pyrian on 19/3/2008 at 02:41
Yeah, that one's fine.
TheNightTerror on 19/3/2008 at 10:53
All right, I'll stick with that. Thanks!
I swear, by the time I'm done sorting, resizing, cropping, and writing on these screenies, I'll be too burned out to code them into the damned walkthrough. I managed to narrow down the original 1,600 or so to a mere 445. This is going to be a long haul . . .
