Need some little help/advice in the beginning (may contain some spoilers) - by Nico87

Well, I'm now at the Cargo Bay area, and I'm supposed to fight off two robots and destroy a laser-turret to progress. If you don't know my location after reading this, the three emails I have in my inbox says something about the radience in the area and that I need to go to a control room of some sort to fix this, not really sure. The thing is, I have a shotgun and a pistol but they're both destroyed and I don't have the repair skill. I also don't have the hack skill yet. My question is, is this normal to not have these skills this far out in the game? I mean, I've seen alot of hackable boxes on my way here and I've destroyed 2-3 weapons aswell, but I can't repair or hack! :nono:
I think I've missed something. Gonna start over anyway, forgot that the quicksaves dissapears after exiting the game :p

Your quicksaves should definitely not disappear between sessions. :erg:
It is quite possible not to have hack or repair, depending on your career paths and upgrade choices - but you can backtrack for almost the entirety of the game to revisit things like that. As for the weapons, the wrench is a decent melee weapon that happens to be unbreakable; plus, Maintenance is the skill that lets you advance unbroken weapons to a better condition, so think about acquiring/upgrading that instead.

Yeh, well, they're gone :erg:
Anyway, kinda hard to defeat two robots and a turret with a wrench!
Matthew on 17/9/2007 at 17:38
Ah, if you had hack it wouldn't be :p And the robots aren't so tough. Yet.

By default, the quicksave is saved on the autosave slot, which is overwritten any time any other slot is saved or loaded from.
To fix this see (
http://www.strangebedfellows.de/index.php?topic=12.0#qs) this thread.
And if you're using a lot of ranged weapons, Maintenance is a must (or you can wait for the guns to break and then Repair them).
And as for those two robots and turrets, just run past them if you can't deal with them with the wrench.

Well the robots are easy because they take long between each shot, the turret is run-by-able, if thats a word!

When dealing with the maintenance robots, just try to run into them and whack them while continuing to run forward. This way, they will keep trying to back out of the fight so they can get a shot at you from a distance. Normally, I would swing away at them until they were down to almost 0HP, at which point I would take out my pistol and shoot them from a distance to destroy them without being harmed. If you don't have one, you can just smash them, but be prepared to take a hit when it explodes. Still, using one or two hypos to get by those droids isn't too big a price.
As far as the turret is concerned, if you have a SwiftBoost Implant, equip it and run past, otherwise just run past and jump while you're in the turrets' line of fire. This way, it's less likely to hit you. Once you can, either shoot it with some AP bullets, hack 'n whack it or just leave it alone entirely. Be prepared though, you will face several more in the cargo bay area.
Might I ask, by the way, where on earth you spent all your Cyber Modules on?
Nico87 on 17/9/2007 at 18:53
Upgraded some stats and weapons I suppose :p I have enough modules now, but at the last upgrade station I saw you could upgrade to Hack 3 I think, but you needed Hack 1 first, and I have 0!
I'm supposed to go to the Command Control room but it has a laser turret far back in the room, one monkey and one zombie in it. 0 ammo.
Rensje on 17/9/2007 at 18:59
So what difficulty are you playing on? If you're playing on Easy or Normal, you should have plenty of CMs to get a rank or two in Hack, even if you started the game completely without. Just on or two points into this stat should serve you well throughout Med/Sci and Engineering, perhaps backed up with Version 1 Hacking software or a point in Cyber Affinity.
As far as the Command Control room goes, if all else fails, either try to pass up on it until you have no other possible destinations left or try to find another firearm somewhere on the ship and then buy one clip of bullets for it. Open the blast doors to Command Control and when the turret pops up to take aim, fire at the explosive barrels from a safe distance. The chain reaction will suffice nicely. =)

This makes no sense. Are you sure you were reading it right?
An upgrade station won't, under any circumstances, offer to upgrade to level 3 if you don't have level 2. Are you sure you weren't looking at the cost or something?
