You could always give this a go ... I haven't downloaded any techno music, but other popular music I have downloaded from this site has almost always been excellent (EDIT: just to be clear, all this music is legally free to download, and is usually (always?) available under a creative commons liscence):

Thanks all. Got some good stuff here to look through. I did manage to, erm, *find* some Tiesto and try it out. Not bad at all; well, I'd never listen to it in the car or elsewhere, but running it works well.
I'd also like to check out Aesop Rock. I do listen to rap and hip-hop when I hit the weights, mainly the Roots and the like. But the samples I've heard off that Aesop Rock sound pretty good.

He can reliably spoil any good techno debate, not to mention parties.

Yea, I figured that'd be a little "advanced" for someone calling Ferry Corsten "techno". Younger Brother and Celtic Cross rock face though.

Haven't really seen any techno mentioned in this thread, but since most forms of electronic dance music get lumped into the 'techno' genre, it's hardly surprising.
If you're liking the psy/goa trance thats actually being recommended (Tiësto isn't of course, stick to the 1997-2002 stuff there, although the 2003 Innercity mix was rather excellent), you can do worse than acts like (
http://www.discogs.com/artist/Tikal) Tikal, (
http://www.discogs.com/artist/Astrix) Astrix, (
http://www.discogs.com/artist/Wizzy+Noise) Wizzy Noise, (
http://www.discogs.com/artist/1200+Mics) 1200 Mics (note their name variations) and Astral Projection. Mix-wise, John '00' Fleming is ace (the above artists crop up a lot in his 2003-2005 mixes). Highlights from him include Exposure 2003 (Trance Arena) (05/09/2003), ASOT 155 (01/07/2004) and Coloursfest, Ireland (27/10/2003).
Techno itself is less charming to me, but Mauro Picotto - Live at Aria, Montreal (30/01/2004) is good, as is Max Graham - Live at Screen, Helsinki (27/04/2003), but at around 4 hours and 3 hours respectively, not terribly interesting for armchair listening (or running, you ought to be finished a fucking marathon by then).
You could go Hard Trance (like Marco V or Christopher Laurence) as this bears more resemblance to Techno than Ferry Corsten, Tiësto or Armin do. If you're
convinced Ferry et al are Techno then you can do worse than Paul Oakenfold's 1999 Essential Mix World Tour (a bit of a jumped up title, but the stuff was solid).

I'd add Infected Mushroom to the list of good psytrance (my top 3 are Hallucinogen (by far the best), Infected Mushroom, and Wizzy Noise).
Apart from psytrance I'd also recommend Hybrid- you can download tons of complete mixes at hybridized.org ((

(
http://www.myspace.com/sabrepulse) Sabrepulse does a nice line in 8-bit techish/hardcore/jungle ('chipcore', if thats not a moronic buzzword), and you can download most of it freely and legally!
