Good luck getting those movies to work. I gave up on it long ago. I used Vista and tried everything. They do play in Linux, but alas there is some other bug where the game sometimes hangs when you try to skip a movie in Linux.

Sounds still to me like a graphics driver issue. Try to uninstall it and remove all remaining files (there are special tools for this purpose). Then install it again.
I think it isn't a VGA drivers problem, I have the lastest version of NVIDIA drivers.
I'll do so, hope it works.:)
But then you believe that the crash is caused by the movies?

right now,we don't know, but getting the movies out of the way is a good start.as soon as the game itself works,we will try to figure out the movies.

OK, I've removed Thief and now I'm installing it again.
It is good
C:\Thief as installation path?

Yep, that looks fine Matteo.
I put mine in C:\Games\Thief (so I can add other game subdirectories later - also this length is not too long) but your suggestion is fine as well.

good news guys... for me obviously.:cheeky:
I've installed the game in C:\Thief, applied the 1.33 patch and now runs, but there is a thing that I want to know: is there an intro movie or something?:erg:

Very good question! And yes, there *is* an intro movie! Also, there is a movie before each Mission and a couple special movies throughout the game... :ebil:

rename _MOVIES back to MOVIES,and try running the game again.with a bit of luck, the movies should run.

the problem is that I haven't renamed anything, I only installed the game and updated to 1.33, I haven't even used the ddfix.
