Hey all,
I'm playing through IW for the first time, and have a question that has been bugging me the the whole time: WTF is with the inventory??
Not only is the damn thing pathetically small when compared to the original DX, but I have been having a total bitch of a time with getting items (especially multitools) to stack correctly. For example, one time I was able to pick up twenty mutitools into a stack in my inventory, but most other times I can't get any more than three or four to a stack in my belt or inventory - if that many. It often just gives me the stupid message that my inventory is full, when its obviously freakin' not.
But the cream of the crappy crop is when I tried dropping the 11 remaining tools (from the original twenty) in order to try to pick up one multitool lying on the ground with them - and I was able to pick up EVERY SINGLE ONE of my original dropped group BUT NOT THE STUPID OTHER ONE - NO MATTER WHEN I SELECTED IT!!! WTF!?!?
Is this just another of the myriad bugs I heard this game has (I am using version 1.2) or is there a way to get around this? Help would be appreciated.

Yeah, it's a commonly reported bug. Try doing a search for it: it's been posted about many, many times. :D
Essentially, there appear to be two 'pools' of multitools, each of which only will stack with its own pool. One pool is rare, and this is the pool your ungrabbable multitool belongs to.
There aren't that many of them..maybe..20 or so, in the whole game..perhaps 10% of the total multitools, tops.
Anyway, what I usually do when I find one is (if I don't have a free inv slot): drop all my 'proper' multitools, pick up the dodgy one, and go open/disable something I wouldn't usually open/disable, because, well, why the hell not?
Then I head back and pick up all the original multitools again.
Or, if you're in a hurry, just ignore it. What IW lacks in different ammotypes, it makes up in quantity of multitools. :D

Oh yeah. I think I opened every lock in the whole game in one way or another - in DX I was so cautious with multitools that I would often save before opening a box :/
That's one good thing about IW - transparent boxes.

The IW Inventory System and Design, quite possibly be the worst ever created.
I have always dreamed Eidos would release the Source Code and at least allow fans to fix it, but alas instead my nightmares remain. :D
Yeah actually there seem to be 2 different MultiTools 1 that stacks to 20 and one that will stop Inventory capacity, not being able to add any more.
Soultion I have found is next time you are at one you can't pick up and you are not yet at 20, drop one from your Inventory then try again to pick the other 1 up, if you can then try the drpped 1, if you can pick it up it is most likly the bad one drop it and go on, leaving the dropped 1.

Omg, I think your right, well except when it is fun to be surprised. ;)

The real fun with the bad ones: When you try picking them up, you can generate a huge pile of same-type tools. Great fun watching the AIs trying to walk over these piles.
Okay, it's not really fun, but it does warrant a pained laugh.
