My friend and I are trying to play SS2 online co-op, but have been unsuccessful so far. Here's what we've done:
1. Installed Hamachi and formed a group. Our hamachi IPs show up in System Shock 2, so that's good. Also, we can ping each other successfully, so we know that we can connect to each other.
2. We've turned off UPNP on our routers
3. We both have the same version of System Shock 2.
We would really like to play this game online, but we're on the verge of giving up. Whenever he tries to join a game I host, he gets a "join failed" message. When I try to join his game, I get a "joining game" message, but it doesn't go any further than that. Is there some other reason why we would't be able to connect?
Thank you in advance for your help!

Yes, I have tried going through the multiplayer guide. I tried everything on the guide except port forwarding, which I didn't think was necessary since my friend and I were using Hamachi and we could connect to each other using it.
We both installed some mods, but that wouldn't affect connectivity, would it?

No, mods shouldn't affect connectivity. You may get some weirdness if both players aren't using the same mods, but that's all.
