We have a little 15/16/17 something inch TV that i received as a present for college about 13-14 years ago (old school tube TV with built in VCR that is ok). We're not an audio/visualphiles, so we've tolerated it in our bedroom for some time now (we inherited a nice projector TV with a screen that i do my Xbox 360 gaming on and most of my DVD watching elsewhere, so i'm happy with whatever works for not too much $$$).
Now, we are in the market to replace our little TV with a new LCD TV sized around 19-26 inches or so. Ideally, we'd like the DVD combo (which i know some people like to poo poo). i came up with this (since i have a $100 gift card to Best Buy):

Anyone have any thoughts/experiences/tips? i am way into computer, consoles, etc., but i've never really caught on to televisions and entertainment media outside of a computer (i guess i'm not that picky in that arena).
Any help on picking out a LCD TV is appreciated.

Dude, for that much money you could get a 42" DLP. I did some quick searching on the site and only found (
http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?skuId=8247916&st=dlp&lp=10&type=product&cp=1&id=1169252413347) this, but it's a 50". They probably still have some of the 42" Samsungs for 700 or 800 bucks. I bought mine when they were new, at Brandsmart, for 850. My friend was just at a Best Buy up north and he called me for advice, up there they had a 52" for $900. DLP's have great image quality and refresh rate comparable to the other techs, they just cost less because they arent wall mounted and the bulbs need to be replaced every 3 or 4 years. Bulbs cost like $150 so it's not a big deal. I'll be replacing mine entirely before the bulb runs out, anywho.
These TV's are best for gaming (in a price/value ratio) because they don't burn, dont ghost, and have the best refresh rates out of the three techs. They tend to come with HDMI and DVI ports so you can use it as a monitor too. This is what I have for my PS3/360 and I love it.
(Damn, I really should work for Samsung as PR or something.)
Edit: Wow, (
http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?skuId=8396032&type=product&id=1179876928639) this is on sale. Must be the one my friend saw up north. It's 56" so it's even bigger than I thought. A tad more expensive than the one you link to but wow, 56" and 1080p. Apparently it comes with a five year warranty for the bulb, too.

EDIT: sorry, cross post with ya

Wow, not a bad deal. Unfortunately, we are limited to putting the TV on an antique wardrobe, and a 121 lb. TV i think would do a serious number on that piece of furniture.
i am definitely going to go check out the other options at Best Buy... thanks tons for your help!

That's a shame, the 42" one I got barely weighs anything. Far lighter than the LCD's and Plasmas of equal size.

Get the one with the best programmes on.

If i can find a smaller one that is lighter weight and the right price, i'll jump all over it.

I can highly UN-recommend Phillips. I've been fighting for over 2 months since the day I got it and they finally sent me a refurb to replace the one that never worked right from day 1. Over two months of warranty time down the drain as well. I called to ask them to extend the warranty since this was in fact the original issue that the refurb was resolving and they said no. I then asked for a refund and they said no, take it back to the store (keep in mind I had been following their instructions for two months and so the store won't take it back now and we already took one back, the second one had the same problems).
sorry for the long story, but you asked (sort of) and I'd hate for someone else to get the shaft. (We are currently considering an attorney on the issue if their customer support doesn't come through - hopefully they will reconsider their policy and this won't be issue for anyone else though).

I wouldn't bother with a TV/DVD combo unit as they tend to be incredibly finicky and from my experience (used to have a load of them at work that broke repeatedly) are much more hassle than having a separate TV and DVD. With that in mind check out <a href="http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?skuId=8423958&productCategoryId=abcat0101001&type=product&tab=2&id=1181832388333#productdetail">this TV</a> and grab a cheap DVD player and you'll be laughing and probably have a few dollars left over afterwards for a bottle of alcoholic delight ;).
