I've been an avid taffer since 2000 and I recently got a new computer. It's a Dell dual core processor running Windows XP with two DVD+-RW drives. I'm trying to install Thief 2 and when I put my install disk into either drive the Aurorun doesn't autorun. I've tried using the command line "setup -lgntforce" and "setup.exe -lgntforce" from both the Run command line in Windows and the command prompt line. Absolutely nothing happens when when I try this from either DVD drive. I have tried copying the all files from the install disk to the hard drive and tried to setup from the C drive.Still ntohing happens. I am using the original Thief 2 disks purchased back in 2000. BTW, the same thing happens when I try to install Thief Gold.:confused. Please Help....I miss my Thief FMs

Do the drives work otherwise. I mean autoplay with CDs or DVDs or other application CDs. If so, then put the disc in the drive.
HOLD THE SHIFT KEY. This should stop the DVD from attempting to load.
Go to start>run>mycomputer>DVD where the game is>browse to the EXE, and click to bring it into the RUN window. Then add the -lgnt command and hit OK.
Remember the space between .EXE and -lgntforce.
You can also go to mycomputer select the DVD drives and right click to check the properties. Make sure that AUTOPLAY is not disabled.

Thanks for answering, the Blackman. Yes the autoplay in both drives work on DVD's music CD's and other games. I tried your suggestions with no luck. When I click on run, I will get the hourglass for about 5 seconds and then it quits. I am able to bring up the Thief 2 install screen ( with install, install Direct X, quit, etc) and whem I click on install, I get the hourglass for about 5 seconds and it quits again. I have put the contents of both disks on flash drives and then tried to install from USB ports with the same results. It's like this computer doesn't want to recognize the .exe function for Thief. However, I have installrd a dozen other games with no problems. I know the disks aren't damamged as I have succesfully installed onto my old computer. I have copied the contents of the first install disk to my hard drive and tried to run from my hard drive with the same results. I'm baffled.

These two ways always work for me:

I know exactly what this is....
Its your antivirus software kicking in.. just disable it temporarily and then try to install

Thanks for responding Bikerdude. I tried your suggestion but no luck. However, DJ Riff's idea of starting in safe mode has allowed me to install the game. I haven't gotten it to run yet but at least it's installed and that's farther than I've gotten in months. Thanks DJ.

The Safe Mode trick should really be in the FAQ instead of "Start the installer and leave it! On some configurations of Windows XP it can take up to an hour for the installer to start."

So what happens when you try to run the game..?

Bikerdude....I get the error message " Windows has encountered a problem. We apologize for the inconvenience blah blah blah".
I've applied the 1.18 patch but that's all so far.
