i am stuck in the goblin city trying to get the troll idol. all the online guides ive looked at said that you are to talk to the goblin king while hes in room with "digestive issues". whenever i try talking to him, he tells me to go away. ive also tried to go through the secret passage, but none of the chests open and as soon as i try pick one, a goblin lord comes to kill me.
another question: how do i get the rune that is on the rafters?

To talk to the Goblin King, you need to get him out of his room. Go to the kitchen, where you will find the chef preparing the Goblin Kings' meals. Wait until he leaves the kitchen and then go over to the dough he was using to prepare the cakes with. Use some wine on the dough (it will turn pink to let you know you've done it) and then wait. The chef will come back and prepare some more cakes with the dough, follow him when he leaves with the latest batch of cakes and watch what happens. Follow the King and talk to him where you find him.
As for the rune, I remember you had to go through a secret door to get up to the rafters and then jump to the rafter to get the rune. Or come back later with a levitation spell.

ive done all that. the king is on the toliet in his room and he still wont talk to me. the first time i talked to him he told me he was king of arx. thats it. now he tells me to go away. ive tried to go through the secret entrance, but none of the chests open and the entire goblin population comes in to kill me. ive been stuck at this place for about 2 weeks and its really getting annoying.

Okay, you need to go into the barracks down the hall from the kitchen. Go to the back room and talk to that goblin. Then steal the key from under his pillow. Make sure you went to the store room near where you entered the goblin lair from and talked to the goblin guarding that door before you take the key from under the pillow. Then talk to the king and you should be okay, he will order everything to be open.
As for the chests in the treasure room, timing is everything. Remember that the guard on the right of the throne room walks over and looks in the slit on the door. He comes in and attacks if he sees you. As for the chests themselves, you may not have enough lock picking ability. Come back for those later in the game.

i still cant get that stupid king to say anything than go away. i download the patch, i got the key, i talked to the king and all he says is go away! argghhh! ive snuck in, tried opening the chests and nothing happens, ive used the key on both, it does nothing, ive tried picking them. it does not work. ive talked to every goblin and nothing they say will give me a clue to what is going on. im going on week 4 with this poppycock and i can not deal with the bafoomery any longer.

Make sure you talked to the goblin whos key you took. The key opens the storeroom where the idol is being kept. If you got the patch after starting the game you may need to restart, as old saves may be a problem. If all else fails, goto the store room which is near the entrance to the goblin lair area, and talk to the guard. if he stays in front of the door, you have not triggered the king yet. if he moves or is not in front of the door, you are okay and can get the idol.

Have you got Atok's key already? If so return it - he will even watch you do this! - then talk to the storeroom guard, check the king's bedroom for goodies - you wont' get them when he is on the loo.
Put wine in the dough, talk to the king, talk to Atok, go to the storehouse.
Hope this solves your problem - it did for me. :)
